First appearance/second appearance

I removed the "First appearance/second appearance" list because Scrat only has four film appearances (Ice Age, Gone Nutty, Ice Age: The Meltdown, No Time for Nuts), all of which are already listed in the article. --Metropolitan90 18:58, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it's five film appearences. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.243.19.150 (talk) 18:46, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

The following was deleted from the article (see reasons below).

Ivy Supersonic claims the Scrat character concept is a trademark infringement on her "Sqrat" as reported in 2002 on CNN by Jeanie Moos. Ivy's Sqrat is a combination character concept of a squirrel and a rat as new species and Ivy is credited with coining that term for New Yorkers to describe Central Park rodents in 2000, and a small product line of related items was available at that time. Since her trademark was established prior to the movie release of Ice Age, it would appear that 20th Century Fox attempted to skirt the concept, look and feel, and trademark by naming their adaptation as a "Scrat" spelled with a "c" rather than a "q", but the Squirrel/Rat composite was applied to the character now in the Ice Age movie. It is reported that Chris Wedge presented the "Scrat" after exposure to Ivy's Sqrat, and the movie producers liked it enough to take the risks associated with similarity to Ivy's Sqrat. This has spawned a heated debate in and out of court that is on-going.

Reasons for deletion:
1. The information was not properly referenced.
2. The only external link in the section was to the website of the paintiff in the dispute.
3. The information was POV, favoring the plaintiff
4. The related lawsuit was dismissed, here: http://www.groklaw.net/articlebasic.php?story=20040728200516564 I suspect the paragraph was written by someone related personally or professionally to the plaintiff in the case. Wikipedia is not the place to air this dispute. Carboncopy 03:13, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

These allegations were put back in, and I have removed them again. Get a court to rule in your favor, and you are welcome to reference the decision in the main article. Until then, there is no way to independently substantiate the claims, and hence it does not meet the standards for inclusion in an encylcopedia. Carboncopy 15:14, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

YES, THERE GONNA BE A 3RD MOVIE!

Is there really going to be an Ice Age 3? Ice Age: The Meltdown was the end of the ice age and anyway, even if there is an Ice Age 3, who said it will be released in 2009?

YES, in 4th of July 2009. You can see it in the official website. There is also a trailer. It's not exactly a trailer, because there is almost nothing on what the movie is gonna be about. It's shows a little movie on Scrat. =) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.125.104.155 (talk) 19:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Interaction with main characters

The article says that Scrat doesn't interact with the protagonists except at the end of the second film. However, didn't he also a brief scene with them interacting with him in the first film? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.163.87.158 (talk) 21:38, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, he was playing chardes with Sid and Manny, telling them about the tigers. In the third one, his interaction is limited to Sid steping on him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DeathWeed (talkcontribs) 10:18, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

A possible basis in science?

This section is nonsense. I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and there is no such thing as the "University of Science and Technology" in Ottawa. Ottawa has two universities - Carleton University and University of Ottawa. Furthermore, there is no such thing as the "Ottawan Mountain Range", at least not in that area. I have no interest in editing this article, but someone else can if they wish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.63.19.48 (talk) 05:36, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I'll just remove it. Definitly looks like a hoax to me. --Yowuza yadderhouse |meh 19:39, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Scrat becomes the mascot of 20th Century Studios and its animation studio

Now that Scrat served as the mascot to his co-animation studio, Blue Sky Studios, until its closure in April 2021 due to the good for nothing COVID-19, he will serve as the mascot for 20th Century Studios and its animation studio, 20th Century Animation. Like all 20th Century Animation feature films (2022-present), the 20th Century Studios logo will appear first and then the 20th Century Animation logo featuring Scrat will appear starting with the Disney+ original movie, Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (2022). More resembles a treeshrew

Treeshrews are often refrered to as living fossils and resemble the small mammals the survived the extinction event that killed the dinosurs. They are often likened to squirrels thourgh they arent related. Scrat looks a lot like one with his graby hands, long tail, long snout, large eyes and even his nervously behavior and chattering! https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/tetrapod-zoology/introducing-the-treeshrews/ Here's just one article I found that talks about treeshrews as living fossils.https://www.skullsunlimited.com/products/replica-tree-shrew-skull-bc-083 and heres a replica skull that shows its jutting from fangs! 2607:FB91:1198:4BF3:AC39:5937:4F7A:8933 (talk) 22:42, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Scrat is clearly not a rodent - the dentition is completely incorrect. Not really insectivore (shrew) dentition, either. Probably, the first sentence of the article should have the word rodent replaced by mammal. Mikeawilson (talk) 13:23, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

  • Per WP:COPYVIOEL, the link to the Ice Age artbook in the first citation should be removed.
  • If you’re going to use quotes, it should attributed to the person speaking, e.g. non naturalistic
  • The Background section shouldn’t be there as it’s WP:UNDUE: It’s primarily about Blue Sky and their movies, nothing about the character.
  • pull out that of a squirrel could be worded better
  • confirmed Wedge's account could be worded better
  • golden age of American animation is quite vague. There were no explicit examples?
    • Unfortunately no, Wedge did not specify any specific character or franchise as an inspiration for Scrat. If it helps, I added "squash and stretch" since Wedge said that those were the kinds of characters that he derived Scrat sequences from. PrimalMustelid (talk) 00:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
  • then opting to keep him could be worded better
  • I think a visual of the Sqrat squirrel could be helpful for the reader, as I'm not sure how Mickey Mouse helps with that.
    • Yeah you're right. Swapped Mickey image for a Sqrat image instead, since he is a major part of the subsection. PrimalMustelid (talk) 00:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
  • Supersonic, revealed that Supersonic seems repetitive
  • make a deal to make this too.
  • Fox lawyers had outfoxed Is there a pun to this?
    • Oops, wrote that as a joke in my own sandbox and forgot to change that. Changed to "outpaced." PrimalMustelid (talk) 00:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
  • the point that she her
  • helped him to plan out his personality and role The wording is implying this is about the director.
    • Specified Scrat regarding personality and role. PrimalMustelid (talk) 00:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
  • In regard to the 2012 could be worded better.
  • The Ice Age section title should be italicized.
  • Scrat is accidentally stepped and A word is missing.
  • moving in near the end of the film This is confusing.
  • one acorn to hit him from the ground Could this be clarified?
  • File:Musée Grévin (septembre 2024) 01.jpg should be removed.
  • That of Diego ???
  • made slapsticks involving him accessible to audiences What does this mean?
  • The last sentence of the second paragraph needs to be reworked.
    • Sure, does the reworded sentence work better?
  • coauthors Something is missing.
    • I'm not sure I understand what is missing exactly. PrimalMustelid (talk) 00:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
  • Punctuations like commas should be outside quotes.
    • Sure, moved all punctuations outside quotes. PrimalMustelid (talk) 00:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

  • @1989 Think I addressed everything except for one concern which I'm confused about (the coauthors one). If there's anything else I need to do, let me know. PrimalMustelid (talk) 01:06, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Overall: Article recently passed a GA review, so it qualifies on newness and length, it also complies with sourcing, neutrality and policy requirements. The only uncited sections in the article are plot synopses that don't really require an inline citation. It would have been nice to see a picture for this one, but there's certainly not any available in the commons/public domain. The hook is definitely interesting, as this is such an iconic character in this series. Easy pass for me. Nice work! Grnrchst (talk) 12:16, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
