A barnstar for you!

| Hello, Grnrchst,
I'm sad to read that you are demotivated in your work on the project. I think we all feel that at times as there are no financial rewards like a paycheck or a bonus given for improving articles or fighting vandalism. I'm not sure how much a digital barnstar can help but it's a gesture to let you know that you and your work is appreciated. I hope you have a pleasant summer! Take care. Liz Read! Talk! 20:20, 7 July 2026 (UTC) |
- @Liz: Thanks for the lovely message Liz, I really do appreciate gestures like this; getting to work with people like you is what makes all this worth it. Given the extreme heat that comes with summers now (red weather warning tomorrow means I'll be remaining indoors), I'm not sure how pleasant it'll be, but I hope you have a nice one! Thanks again for reaching out and please do keep up the excellent work <3 --Grnrchst (talk) 21:29, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

DYK for Peter Arshinov
On 2 August 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Peter Arshinov, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Peter Arshinov was denounced as a Bolshevik by anarchists, and was then charged with anarchism by Soviet authorities? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Peter Arshinov. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (Peter Arshinov), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

DCWC August update
The 2026 Developing Countries WikiContest has been running for a month now, so let's check in with the competition so far!
As of the time of writing, our top contestants are:
Vanderwaalforces (submissions) ahead of the pack with 715 points, with two FAs and many GAs on the monarchs of the Kingdom of Benin;- Simongraham (submissions) with 291 points, mostly with GAs on jumping spiders, alongside various GAN and FAC reviews;
- Jaguarnik (submissions) with 240 points, mostly from an FA on the 1945 film Ivan the Terrible;
Grnrchst (submissions) with 215 points, mostly from GAs on anarchist history in various countries, alongside many GA reviews, and;
Vestrian24Bio (submissions) tied for 4th with 215 points, with an FL and four GAs on Indian cricket!
These competitors are in the lead, but if past experience is any indication, big shake-ups might still await us in the contest. If you're looking for a way to boost your position, we got a table of review requests from fellow participants—you can rack up a lot of points through reviews, and it might just convince others to review your own nominations! You can also look through the eligible reviews page to find other articles to review, with highlights for articles eligible for the 1.5× multiplier. The coordinators would like to thank Jaguarnik (submissions) for his work to keep this page up to date.
Thank you so much for all your work in the contest so far, dear participants, and keep on the good fight against systemic bias on our wiki! Have any questions? Leave a message on the contest talk page or send it to one of our wonderful coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), Generalissima (talk · contribs), Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), and TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Joe Hill inquiry
Howdy! I know you're the one to ask around here on radical history. I just finished a rewrite of Joe Hill (activist) (though now I'm wondering if that needs the disambiguation, lol). You don't have to review the GAN or anything; I just want to send this up to FAC at some point, and I wanna know what might be missing or unclear. I'm especially unsure how to incorporate the murder trial into the article, since it takes up the majority of its word count as it is. It should probably be split off to its own article, since there's more detail I did not include, but I don't know how far we should summary style it beyond that. Thank you as always for your time and good work! Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 13:53, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Generalissima: Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately I'm not super familiar with the USian radical movement, outside of the specific areas I've covered, so not sure how much I can help on that front. I do know that Hill's trial and execution is a big part of what made him so famous, so I can see the argument for retaining it. But if you do go ahead with a split, I'd say summarising it down to four or five paragraphs would probably help balance it out with the rest of the article. Thanks for rewriting this, it's looking great! --Grnrchst (talk) 14:18, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
Good article nominations RfC
Hi Grnrchst,
There is an ongoing Request for Comment (RfC) at Wikipedia:Good article nominations/August 2026 RfC, which you may be interested in because in the past year, you have nominated or reviewed more than one good article nomination. This message has also been sent to all subscribers to the Good Article Gazette. The RfC contains many proposals (33 at the time of writing), which are split into the following categories: nominators, reviewers, reviews, volunteer roles, reviewing initiatives, and others. However, you are more than welcome to add any proposals of your own that you wish to put to the community.
By the end of September, all the proposals will have been closed by an uninvolved editor, either as a consensus for one of the options or with no consensus. At this point, editors will be invited again to develop these proposals into coherent policy and implement them.
Thank you for your contributions to the good articles project, and I look forward to your input! (in solidarity), JacobTheRox(talk|contributions) 16:02, 11 August 2026 (UTC)

WikiCup 2026 September newsletter
The fourth round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 29 August at 23:59 (UTC). Everyone who competed in round 4 will advance to round 5 unless they have withdrawn or been removed. Round 4 was competitive, though slightly less so than round 3. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; six scored over 500; and nine scored over 300. Each of the top five competitors had hundreds of points accumulated from multiple GAs. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
Generalissima (submissions) with 1,318 points, mostly from 13 good articles and 3 featured articles about creeks and Chinese and Japanese subjects
Vanderwaalforces (submissions) with 1,208 points from 2 featured articles, 2 featured lists, and 12 good articles about African leaders, along with over two dozen reviews
A.Cython (submissions) with 1,084 points from 16 good articles and a small good topic about warfare and Greek elections, along with over two dozen reviews
Vestrian24Bio (submissions) with 955 points, mostly from 2 FLs, 2 featured topics, and 16 GAs about cricket, and almost two dozen reviews
Bgsu98 (submissions) with 837 points from 4 FLs and 8 GAs about figure skating, along with two dozen reviews
The full scores for round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 10 featured articles, 11 featured lists, 8 featured-topic articles, 103 good articles, 6 good-topic articles and more than 30 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 11 In the News articles, and they have conducted 170 peer reviews, FA and GA reviews. The tournament points table has been updated.
Remember that any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!
