- I checked White and Pharoah 5th ed., it's pretty much the definative text on oral radiology imo. They call it "Lingual salivary gland depression" (very descriptive) then discuss all the other names in the text. The trend is to go away from the nomenclature based on who 'discovered' it, so I'd go to this name with redirects from Stafne defect (which is what I've always known it by).Ian Furst (talk) 13:29, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- See also WP:MEDMOS#Naming_conventions: "article title should be the scientific or recognised medical name that is most commonly used in recent, high-quality, English-language medical sources, rather than a lay term (unscientific or slang name) or a historical eponym that has been superseded. These alternative names may be specified in the lead." Recently I tried to get the aphthous ulcer page renamed to "recurrent aphthous stomatitis", as I had several textbooks which used that term, but "aphthous stomatitis" was more commonly cited on pubmed, and the article ended up as aphthous stomatitis, which I'm not really bothered by to be honest. Wikipedia also doesn't tend to follow the ICD-10 name often I have noted, even though this is mentioned as a possible source in the MOS. Lesion (talk) 14:01, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
