"Stroke" or "a stroke"?

It seems like a majority of sources refer to strokes as "a stroke" (countable noun), not "stroke" (uncountable noun) as currently used in the article (). I am going to change all mentions of stroke to the countable noun version, but I figured it would be best to start a discussion beforehand given the class and vitality of the article.
