Confusion between old and new stations
The article switches between the old station building, the platforms and the new facilities. These are all quite distinct and should be kept separate.Royalcourtier (talk) 03:27, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
- I agree. If I didn't know the history and the layout prior to 2003, I would wonder what it's talking about at times. I miss the old cafetaria, the ticket office, and the underground walkway to the platforms. Akld guy (talk) 05:12, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and split the new and old stations. The official narrative run by KiwiRail and Auckland Transport is that the Strand is really considered its own entity, despite it obviously using the old station's platforms and that the old station operated for a while without the building. It all became a bit confusing when I read the page recently. The confusion is rather noticeable outside of Wikipedia too with some articles using the old station building as the image for Strand Station articles and a number of people mentioning general confusion and talking about visiting the building expecting to catch the Northern Explorer. By splitting the articles, hopefully some clarity is established, at least here Fcjh (talk) 05:37, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
American Embassy
I have never heard the building referred to as the American Embassy. I owned one of the apartments, and was closely involved with the management, so ought to have heard such an expression, if it was indeed used. Since no citation is given I recommend removal of the reference.Royalcourtier (talk) 03:29, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

The Strand Station → Auckland Strand railway station – Apply relevant WP:NZRMOS style advice in line with WP:NCSTATION, and improve natural disambiguation from other Strand stations in line with the name used by the station operator. Tomiĉo (talk) 02:10, 9 January 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. Jeffrey34555 (talk) 01:11, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose changing The Strand to Auckland Strand, the latter is quite an awkward construction and is used significantly less in sources. The NZ Herald doesn't use 'Auckland Strand' at all , nor do RNZ and Stuff use it just once Two of the stations at the disambiguation page haven't been called 'strand' in over half a century and I do not see any evidence that the Norwegian station is known as The Strand station. I am neutral on replacing Station with railway station. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:17, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support I agree it's used less, but I think there is enough demonstration of usage to justify its use per WP:NATURAL. Also support the change to 'railway station' per the relevant naming conventions. Turnagra (talk) 09:30, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose on balance. Common name is certainly The Strand, and directional signage to the station says The Strand, while platform signage is just Strand. Also neutral on the addition of railway to the name. Paora (talk) 10:39, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
