Tropical Storm Wutip (2025) → Typhoon Wutip (2025) – Wutip barely managed to become a typhoon at about 01:00 UTC today. I think the page should be moved now. Quake1234 (talk) 22:08, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose Some sources still refer to the system as a typhoon. However, in accordance with long-standing practice in the basin, we use the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA)—the Regional Specialized Meteorological Center (RSMC) for the Western Pacific—for classification in the article title, as outlined in Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones/Style#Tropical cyclone. For example, see Tropical Storm Maria (2024), Tropical Storm Nock-ten, Tropical Storm Conson, and Tropical Storm Rumbia (2013). We need to wait for the JMA’s post-analysis of the storm to determine whether it will be officially classified as a typhoon. HurricaneEdgar 22:16, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose As per HurricaneEdgar. It isn't officially a typhoon (and probably won't).
🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter")01:35, 15 June 2025 (UTC) - Oppose due to it not being an official typhoon. I would be open to making it a redirect though. ✶Quxyz✶ 02:40, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Comment If the JMA upgrades the system to a typhoon, the title will be changed immediately. This was the case with Typhoon Cempaka—originally, it was not classified as a typhoon in the advisory, but post-analysis later determined that it had reached typhoon status. Therefore, I suggest closing this discussion for obvious reasons. HurricaneEdgar 12:02, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Agree. 218.102.129.236 (talk) 17:56, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose it did not become an official typhoon Accordthemusician (talk) 22:43, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose Yeah I agree with literally everyone who opposes this rename, as the main source of information Wikipedians use for the WPAC basin is the JMA. They do include JTWC info in the weather event infobox, but I assume it's because it's a popular source. Just... I've noticed the JTWC has some strange overestimates, like their 882 millibars/hectopascals pressure estimate for Surigae compared to JMA's 895 millibars/hectopascals pressure estimate. CasualCycloneTracker180897 (talk) 05:01, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose. JMA has not yet classified this storm as a Typhoon. Brennan1234567890 (talk) 14:46, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose, as the system was not classified as a typhoon by JMA. Drdpw (talk) 21:00, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. It was only a typhoon by JTWC, and JMA is this basin’s official weather agency. 223.16.216.90 (talk) 05:51, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- For those unfamiliar, JMA’s post-analysis (Best Track data) reviews a storm’s position and intensity every six hours and is usually released a few months after the storm ends. HurricaneEdgar 08:11, 18 June 2025 (UTC)

Third review
- The first named storm of the 2025 Pacific typhoon season, source?
- Cited IBTRACS
- making it one of the five latest-named storms in the Western North Pacific basin→ making it one of the five latest-named storms in the northwestern Pacific basin
- Changed
- The infobox says that Wutip peaked with 100 km/h winds, but the rest of the article says 110 km/h.
- Changed
- Wutip briefly passed over the far western part of Hainan Island, China and made its first landfall near Dongfang City on the same day, They contradict each other.
- This is correct, just in the wrong order. Switched
- Damage figures should be in the lead.
- Added
- In Đà Nẵng, Vietnam, the outer rainbands of the storm caused severe flooding on streets and in houses due to heavy rainfall, with some areas sustaining minimal damage. This isn't a good example of Vietnam.
- Added damage estimates
- tropical cyclogenesis is linked twice.
- Where?
- By 06:00 UTC on June 10, the system was moving south of the Paracel Islands,[6] and three hours later, the JTWC issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert (TCFA) before upgrading it to a tropical depression,[7] assigning it the designation 01W later that day[8] as it moved west-northwest along the southwestern periphery of a mid-level subtropical high.[9] too long.
- Split
- Western doesn't need to be capitalized.
- Done
Rest of review coming later. GiftedIceCream 14:17, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- On June 11, China's National Emergency Broadcast [cn] urged residents in coastal regions in coastal areas to stay updated on weather developments. Redlink.
- Unlinked
- The Hainan Provincial Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief Committee activated a Level IV emergency response for Wutip. What is a level IV?
- Removed; source does not elaborate
- The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow alert (Level III), while the cities of Wanning, Haikou, and the Baisha Li Autonomous County declared a blue alert (Level IV). Fishing boats in Guangdong Province were ordered back to port. When? Also ditto to above.
- Fixed
- Foreign refs should use the language parameter.
