Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Wildfire
Objective: Expand information on Canadian wildfires. Add more articles on seasonal wildfires in Canadian provinces, add templates, create more articles on major wildfires in Canada, etc. It is separate from Wikipedia:WikiProject Wildfire, which mainly focuses on wildfires in the United States.

Don't use archive.today
Apparently they just deprecated the site as a source. They put it on the spam blacklist and want remaining links taken down. I was going to place messages on all members' talk pages, but given how time consuming it would be, I only did it on one such talk page, and I'm instead posting it on here. You can read the RFC for more details. Otherwise, Internet Archive and IEM. Hurricane Clyde 🌀my talk page! 01:14, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
Historic nor’easter/blizzard - need all hands on deck
Posting here to strongly urge anyone who can to help out with the article (at February 2026 nor'easter - this will be changed later today just a bit too early right now), given the unprecedented and historic (in the NWS’s own words just issued moments ago). I’ve done a lot of bulk work on it already and plan to continue doing so, so any help is appreciated. It’s gonna be a longgg article when it’s done I think. re: (citations for) sustained winds in blizzards
Hi, I've noticed a recurrent issue in many winter storm articles, which is the fact that often-high sustained winds are being put as fact without a clear source backing them.
I don't think I need to do all this but in reverse chronological order:
- With the ongoing February 2026 North American blizzard, User:MarioProtIV put down 1-minute sustained winds of 35 mph, with a minimum pressure of 1000 mbar- later raised by someone, possibly Mario, to 75 mph, hurricane force. No citation
- With the January 23–27, 2026 North American winter storm, Mario also put down winds of 50 kts, strong gale-force, later raised to 70 kts, hurricane force. No citation
- In the May 2025 nor'easter, User:HikingHurricane put 35, later 40 kts, no citation
- February 13–17, 2021 North American winter storm, HikingHurricane put 70 kts, no citation, later bumped down to 65, still no citation
- March 1–3, 2018 nor'easter initially had two sources for different sustained winds, here's a diff with both of them- one being (an archive of) a semi-official reading of max sustained winds at 61 mph, and one being an unofficial one, a YT video reading 76 mph. Obviously the latter one was removed as it was unofficial and unreliable, but then the official citation was removed in favor of an unsourced claim of the OPC saying 65 kts.
- Oldest I looked at is the January 2018 North American blizzard, where Mario replaced 150 mph (???) with 90 mph sustained winds, still unsourced
I don't necessarily doubt the estimates, but I do believe that an actual source is needed for each of them, and when there is no source it shouldn't be populated.
The OPC provides forecasted winds, I've seen, but I don't know where ppl get their documented or estimated sustained winds. And I could see whether Public Information Statements like the one used for the March 2018 storm could also have such data. Is there any other place that ppl are getting this wind data, because I plan to source all of the data and when I can't I plan to remove the estimate - presidentofyes, the super aussa man 13:03, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Presidentofyes12: As for any sustained wind estimates I have put in for nor'easters, including the one in May 2025, all do indeed come from OPC HSF products accessed through IEM. Please see here for the May 2025 storm in particular. These products are also where the location data for tracks comes from, as have been made for some nor'easters throughout the years. ~ HikingHurricane (contribs) 14:17, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- Alright thank you, I'll use that to source the sustained winds where I can - presidentofyes, the super aussa man 14:47, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Draft:Tornado outbreak of March 15-16, 2026
Just an FYI for everyone that due to the volatile uptrend in models for the 15/16th I've started this draft. Feel free to help out. 16:42, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
- Comment - The snowstorm/likely blizzard associated with this is going to be just as significant so I would prefer if we name it something like March 15–16, 2026 North American storm complex. If the tornado portion underperforms then I would just move it to March 2026 North American blizzard. --MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 17:39, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
- Note that it’s been changed now to Draft:March 13–16, 2026 North American storm complex, as the impacts from this system are already affecting the Pacific Northwest. --MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 00:47, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
