Line speed limit

"As much of the line has a maximum speed of 125 mph (201 km/h), it meets the European Union's definition of an upgraded high-speed line, although only Class 390 Pendolinos and Class 221 Super Voyagers with tilting mechanisms operated by Avanti West Coast travel at that speed. Non-tilting trains are limited to 110 mph (177 km/h)."

Avanti 221s aren't a thing anymore. Anamyd (talk) 02:55, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

Left aligning images

@G-13114: I left aligned those images because on certain screen resolutions they wind up being pushed underneath the infobox, so they wind up in a different part of the article to the content they refer to. Danners430 (talk) 15:40, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

Why not use {{clear}}? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 18:03, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
A lot of them were a long way up the article on my screen - using clear would have meant a huge empty space in the article, whereas aligning left meant no such empty space was needed Danners430 (talk) 18:42, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
How many visitors have a screen that wide (but don't operate it as two vertical windows)? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:03, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
Mine isn’t necessarily that wide - it’s a 4k display operating at 150% scaling… correct me if I’m wrong here (which is entirely possible), that’s equivalent to 1440p - not that uncommon nowadays, especially on laptops Danners430 (talk) 19:32, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

Voyagers

@10mmsocket I actually left that last edit by the IP, as as far as I could tell they'd stopped edit warring the images and were sourcing the route changes - thoughts? Danners430 tweaks made 08:03, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

I did wonder afterwards. Act in haste repent at leisure. Thanks for the info! 10mmsocket (talk) 14:01, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
They did wind up going back to the photo edit though…
For the sake of having a discussion here should they wish to join us, what are your issues with the change? Personally I was concerned that the route changes were unsourced and the image was of poorer quality. However, the removal of Avanti’s Voyagers can easily be sourced, so removing them from the table shouldn’t be an issue. Danners430 tweaks made 15:27, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

New image in infobox

The image in the main infobox depicts a Class 390 Pendolino in the old Virgin Trains livery, which is no longer used. This is just my opinion, but I believe the image should be updated as it is outdated. NorfolkTrainspotter (talk) 13:57, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

Right, but the article is about the line... not the train or operators Danners430 tweaks made 14:04, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
Okay then. I just felt that due to other articles on railway main lines in the UK having a current operator shown in the image in the main infobox, the same should be done for the WMCL NorfolkTrainspotter (talk) 14:20, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
I took a new photo from what I believe to be the same vantage point as the original a few years back, with an Avanti Pendolino. Unfortunately the trees have grown up a lot in the intervening years, so I wasn't totally happy with the result. You can judge for yourself. I'm happy enough with the existing one if everyone else is. G-13114 (talk) 14:37, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
I will say perhaps it’s high time we discuss the image as a whole - how does that particular location even represent the WCML as a route? What would? Would for example Crewe or the flying junctions be more representative? Something worth discussing IMO! Danners430 tweaks made 14:39, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
I agree. Perhaps using a notable station like Crewe or London Euston would be better. NorfolkTrainspotter (talk) 14:42, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
Or since it’s about the infrastructure rather than trains, something like this? Danners430 tweaks made 14:53, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
I like the image. Where did you take it? NorfolkTrainspotter (talk) 14:56, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
I didn’t - I found it on Commons. Danners430 tweaks made 15:27, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
I do like that photo. If the existing one does end up getting changed, should the location be changed or do we keep it at Watford Gap? NorfolkTrainspotter (talk) 14:39, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
That's totally unsuitable as a lead image, it's small and dark and has a fence in the foreground. G-13114 (talk) 15:06, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
Something like it would make sense - haven’t done much of a search on Commons Danners430 tweaks made 15:27, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
I think that we should disregard this request. NorfolkTrainspotter had been editing Wikipedia for no more than half an hour when they first posted above (they had registered at 13:08, less than an hour earlier; first edit 13:31), and has since been globally locked and forcibly renamed (at 16:13), for reasons I cannot disclose. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:01, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
