Hello Dcliftonnightingale. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dcliftonnightingale. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dcliftonnightingale|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. ElKevbo (talk) 01:33, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- You are correct. I am not being compensated for edits themselves. It is part of my overall job to contribute content to the Nightingale College page, not own or control it. My interest is in providing accurate, timely, and relevant information to users who may find benefit in what is shared. Regardless, if there is a formal disclosure I should enter, I am more than happy to do so. Dcliftonnightingale (talk) 19:20, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello, Dcliftonnightingale!
Having an article draft declined at Articles for Creation can be disappointing. If you are wondering why your article submission was declined, please post a question at the Articles for creation help desk. If you have any other questions about your editing experience, we'd love to help you at the Teahouse, a friendly space on Wikipedia where experienced editors lend a hand to help new editors like yourself! See you there! DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:04, 22 April 2026 (UTC) |
My bad and wrong wording. I would like to contribute information to the page on an ongoing basis and will use the edit request feature from now on when additions, deletions, changes, etc., are made.
Blocked for undisclosed COI editing

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For an unblock to be considered, you must:
- Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
- State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
- Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.
Administrators: if this block includes a Volunteer Response Team ticket number, this block was placed as part of the conflict of interest VRT queue and the user must not be unblocked without the express consent of a user with access to the queue.

- I am the corporate social media manager for Nightingale Education Group, the parent company of Nightingale College. I have no financial stake in edits other than being the employee responsible for maintaining the College's wiki page. The edits I've made are accurate and are only related to the leadership, location, and brand. Dcliftonnightingale (talk) 16:54, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Dcliftonnightingale - As you are an employee of the parent company, this falls under Wikipedia's definition of paid editing. You are required to make the appropriate disclosures, including on your userpage. Please read caretully the links above on paid editing and COI. — ERcheck (talk) 17:21, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- (Non-administrator comment) Your employment by itself is sufficient to trigger the mandatory paid editing disclosure policy. If you want your account to be unblocked, then you must use the
{{unblock}}template as described in the block notice above. Without it, your appeal will not appear in the queue of unblock requests, and therefore never noticed by administrators. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:23, 22 April 2026 (UTC) - @Dcliftonnightingale - To request an unblock, be sure to use the template above, AND address all three points mentioned above. Your unblock request must be written in your own words; if you use AI to write the response, your request will not be considered. — ERcheck (talk) 17:24, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

Your last response concerns me. You cannot "take control" of the content of the Nightingale College article; it isn't your article, it is an article about your organization. Article subjects do not have any right of ownership or control over the content of articles; you cannot insist that an article read as your organization wants it, nor "locked down" at a version you prefer. Wikipedia is a collaborative project whose fundamental editorial model is consensus. Any Wikipedia editor is free to edit any article at any time; we assume good faith of editors unless there is clear evidence to the contrary.
For someone like yourself who has a conflict of interest, the preferred method is for you to use the edit request process. This ensures that independent editors have the opportunity to review your proposed changes, and send them back for revision if there are issues. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:46, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- Indeed. To be frank, we are not concerned with the "narrative" your college wishes to portray. You, as the representative of the college, have no more rights to the article about it than any other editor. Just as you cannot exclusively dictate what The New York Times writes about your college, you cannot exclusively dictate the content of the Wikipedia article about your college. This is not to say that we do not strive for accuracy, we do, but it must be done in the right way, and in collaboration with the community here. We consider much more than the wishes of the subject in determining content. Your college is absolutely free to control its narrative on its own website and social media. As noted by Drm310, you should use the edit request process in most cases; permitted exceptions are described here(such as removing blatant vandalism). 331dot (talk) 09:12, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

- @Dcliftonnightingale: - Your most recent unblock request above does not address the issues that have been raised; you have not demonstrated that you understand the COI issues; nor, the "ownership" concerns. You have not stated that you understand how you should properly contribute to Wikipedia with respect to the school's article. I recommend that you resubmit your request. — ERcheck (talk) 14:55, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for the clarification. I understand that I have a clear conflict of interest due to my professional relationship with Nightingale College and that this limits how I should engage with the article. I also understand that neither I nor the institution “owns” the Nightingale College Wikipedia page; it is a community-maintained article governed by Wikipedia’s policies. Going forward, I will not make direct edits to the article and will instead use the talk page to suggest neutral, well-sourced changes, allowing independent editors to determine whether they are appropriate. I acknowledge and respect Wikipedia’s COI and ownership policies and will follow them accordingly. I understand that Wikipedia’s conflict of interest and ownership policies exist to protect the encyclopedia’s neutrality, credibility, and independence. Articles must reflect what reliable, independent sources have published—not the perspective or priorities of the subject itself. When people closely connected to a topic edit directly, even with good intentions, it can undermine trust in the article’s neutrality and create the appearance of promotional control. I also understand that no individual or organization owns an article about itself; editorial authority rests solely with the Wikipedia community. My role, given my COI, is therefore limited to transparently disclosing that relationship and proposing well‑sourced, neutral changes on the talk page for independent editors to evaluate and implement at their discretion.

OK. Here is my sincere, learned plea to unblock my account. I understand how being an employee of Nightingale Education Group could be a conflict of interest in adding content to the Nightingale College Wiki page. I am compensated as a Nightingale employee to create and share content on behalf of the College and our other divisions. That said, I understand and fully comprehend that Wikipedia content is owned by no one and that neutrality is a must. I am a former reporter and know the importance of validated, neutral source materials that are as objective as possible. I have no intention of allowing anyone at Nightingale to corrupt the Wiki structure with promotional, biased, or invalid material. I will guarantee that any and all submissions to the Nightingale College page go through the edit request process and that all relevant references are listed for said materials. I very much want to be a part of the Wiki community and contribute information that meets the standards set for by the community. I humbly apologize for the confusion and lack of clarity in stating my understanding of the Wiki standards and ask that I be given the chance to be a contributing member of the community. Thank you.

I am lifting this to a partial block. In this case, you will be able to edit everything on Wikipedia except Nightingale College, though you will still be able to request edits on the article's talk page. Let me know if you have any questions concerning this block. Otherwise, if you have general questions about editing, you can reach out to the Teahouse. Happy editing! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 23:33, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

- Correct. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 14:17, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Is there anything I can do to recover the ability to make direct edits? Again, I want to be a good member of the Wiki community. If not, understood. I will accept the decision and take accountability for what got me here. Thanks. Dcliftonnightingale (talk) 14:46, 22 May 2026 (UTC)

- (Non-administrator comment) Your request is in the queue (currently 80-something) of unblock requests, and an administrator will get to it when they are available. They, like almost all of us here on Wikipedia, are volunteers - so they are spending their own unpaid time to handle these requests. Please be patient, I guarantee that your turn will come. As a heads-up, administrators often work with the oldest requests so it's better to not edit your talkpage unless one shows up and asks a question. New edits make it look like someone's handling your case and obviously you want it to be clear that you're still waiting! Best wishes, Meadowlark (talk) 04:54, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the response and for the tip on patience. I appreciate the hard work volunteers like you put into Wiki. I'm learning a ton about the platform and how to be a good citizen.
