I cede your point for several edits you made which switched my own insertion of "alumna" back to "alumni".

There is one, however, where I (we?) simply do not know whether this adjective is tied to the subject or the predicate: See Krystyna Kuperberg. Frankly, that lead paragraph is terribly awkward. --Had she been a Professor of Mathematics, and been named to a group called "Alumni Professor[s] of Mathematics"? Here, the use of "Alumni" would indicate plural, so to be correct, "Professor" should also be pluralized, and in a group that consists of men and women, the Latin plural follows the masculine form (alumni, versus alumnae if consisting solely of women). --your interpretation. However, the first reference calls this out as a specific chair, the one for mathematics, among a larger group of Alumni Professorships. As a singular chair, for her specific discipline, ought she be referred to with the singular Latin, as "alumna"? The designation of Ms. Kuperberg to this celebratory chair occurred at Alabama, and not at Rice where she matriculated into her PhD. Alternatively, if somehow, this god-awful sentence had incorrectly asserted that she was an "alumna", of Auburn, and as a separate matter, if she had been named a "Professor of Mathematics" then my rendering would also have been correct.

I am trying to decipher a bad sentence, as well as make it linguistically correct. You are engaged in academic circles; might you have some additional insight on this one? Jax MN (talk) 19:44, 6 August 2026 (UTC)

Here is a page that describes the award. It is a professorship that is sponsored by the alumni association. It would be no different than being awarded a John Smith professorship, I find it unusual that it is in the lead compared to the other awards that she has recieved.
