Wikipedia:Pending changes/Straw poll on interim usage
Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Altered speedy deletion rationale: User talk:MER-C/sulekha.com
Hello Hoo man, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted User talk:MER-C/sulekha.com, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow and specific, and the process is more effective if the correct criterion is used. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. SmartSE (talk) 13:41, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
vandalism?
Hi, I recently edited the article on John Edward to include the words that he is a "self-described" psychic medium, and you reverted it saying it was vandalism. I made this edit because there have been no validated scientific studies or research to back Edwards claim that he is supposedly psychic, nor have there been any scientific studies or research to date that have verified or supported that psychic abilities exist. To not include the words "self-described" is to suggest that the fact that he is psychic is undoubtedly true, where in fact it is very disputed. Including these words is important because if not, the page suggests that something that is very widely disputed, and even scientifically disproven in many cases, is true, where in reality the fact that they are "psychic" comes only by their self proclamation and not by any supported scientific study or research— Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.221.143.98 (talk • contribs) 15:17, 27 February 2011 (UTC
- First, I want to excuse me, of course that was no vandalism. But I'm still not sure whether this should be written into the article or not. Isn't it already enough to have a link to Psychic which already has a critics section? Another possibility would be to create a critics section withing his article - Hoo man (talk) 15:26, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hoo man is correct, the link to Psychic medium is sufficient per the ArbCom findings Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Paranormal/Proposed_decision#Adequate_framing, Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Paranormal#Cultural_artifacts, etc. Mediumship makes it clear that mediums claim to be able to speak to the dead, so therefore members of that group do not need an incorrect, illogical qualifier added in their articles. I have this page watchlisted and will respond here as needed. Dreadstar ☥ 16:24, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- Though I would disagree on a personal level and say that it is necessary in order to not be misleading, I see that it is clearly outlined in the link that you posted and thus stand corrected. I will look into creating a critics section as you suggested, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.221.143.98 (talk) 19:24, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Page protections
Do you get any say in what pages do and don't get protected? I don't think it's fair they blocked the movie The Fox and the Hound because of one user's vandalism (that guy Bambifan101). Could someone look into this please? Animationismylife (talk) 01:01, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
- That's difficult, on the one hand I think that pages should kept open as often as possible (to let everyone improve them), but on the other hand I know Bambifan and he is really persisting. But with Pending Changes activated I would say it's good to have it unprotected, so feel free to request it (here: Wikipedia:Requests for page protection). - Hoo man (talk) 01:09, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Ka wiki again
Hello, Hoo man! We have a little problem in ka wiki again, maybe, if you have some time, you will have a look at it? To be short, there are two images of globes in articles about geographical objects - for example here. I tried to find out what the problem was, but failed :(... Best regards, Diaoha, --Melber (talk) 17:43, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Why?
You recently changed a post that I updated. As I work for that organistation, I feel I know more about it than yourself. Can you please leave the article as it was. Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thewebguyuk (talk • contribs) 18:05, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- Of course you know more about the given subject than I do, and I have to apologize for that revert, I used the wrong message. But you tried to link an external image which is (for good reason) impossible ;) - Hoo man (talk) 18:10, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- I've since changed this. Not quite used to using WikiCommon images in posts :( Thewebguyuk (talk) 18:12, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Would you please help me again with the monospaced fonts
Hi Hoo man, I asked for someone to help me override the default settings of my monospace font. You gave me a magical code in the technical village pump, however, I still have the same problem in Wiktionary. For example, my custom CSS page in Wiktionary displays in the default monospace font of my browser, rather than the fonts I chose in the code you gave me. Thanks in advance. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 01:46, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Strange html
Hi. I just got a message asking me to contact you as I was trying to add some strange html into a page. All I was actually doing was trying to explain what I was seeing at User talk:Chargrilledawesome and I was quoting it as part of the explanation - but I don't really need to do that, so that's OK. Anyway, as it is apparently a known problem, I thought I'd let you know it was happening to that editor too, in case you weren't aware of it - and it would be nice to know the cause when you've tracked it down. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:36, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Gadget-popups.js missing full functionality at enWS
Gay Hoo man. I have Gadget-popups.js gadgetified over at enWS and it is working though in a limited format compared to our previous earlier version (locally installed). This current rendition does not do pop up in all namespaces, whereas the previous version did. I am pretty certain that I have followed all the instructions to get it fully working, including setting popupOnlyArticleLinks=false;. An example would be at s:en:Index:The_Dictionary_of_Australasian_Biography.djvu one would be able to hover over the image and get the initial link to File:, and pop up with link to Commons. Now? NADA! There are other examples where the popups do not occur. Would you mind if I borrow some of your brain cycles to help unravel this mystery? Thanks if I can. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:15, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
Requesting help with a database report
Request for help
Hi,
Seasons Greetings, I was looking for following help and user Billinghurst suggested me that taking your view on following may be helpful hence this request.
I am requesting your view and guidance at at :mediawiki:Thread:Project:Support_desk/Whether_edit_filters_do_count_preview_actions.
- What I am trying to find out In brief:
- Edit action hits which are only flagged or tagged by a filter (but without warn or disallow) are usually (technically) are supposed to get saved. But prima facia we are coming across instances where in few such edits are not getting saved.
- Why I am trying to find out :
- If the 'edit filter extension' counts, 'user edit actions preceding of pressing save buttons (actions like preview action), then there remains a chance of Edit filters based on number of user edit actions or filters with rate limit may malfunction ocasionally.(nl wikipedia and mr wikipedia have reported some bugs as some edit filters may not be functioning as expected in this respect)
- At en wikipedia:
- I have listed few such likely instance at Wikipedia:Edit_filter/False_positives/Reports#Study_of_hits_and_false_positives. I need your support in administrative preview of listed instances to confirm that if any blacklisting or any other action might have stopped those edit actions from getting saved. If not then those can be usefull for further technical/bug study
If I can get your support then I can dig further to list more such instances at en wikipedia, and bring doubtfull hits to technical discussion and report at respective bugs wherever necessary. Secondly, I would likely to know, If you are aware of any discussion has already taken place at en wikipedia about above mentioned aspects.
Thanks and Regards
Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing list
Hi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you!
