Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue on the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Hello Popeadam, and I've been assigned as your mentor!

Hello, Popeadam, and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm PolishHamster and I've volunteered to be your Wikipedia mentor. I'm here for you whenever you need help with Wikipedia. It's great to have you on board to help create this online encyclopedia.

To help you get started, your homepage has a brief tutorial. If you need some ideas about what kind of things need doing, try the "Suggested edits" module top left on your homepage, or the Task Center.

Help is available: as your Mentor, you can always find me listed in the "Get editing help" module bottom right on your homepage; there are also additional help links there. You can also ask me questions directly on my talk page, or try the Wikipedia:Teahouse to get help designed especially for new users from a team of experienced volunteers. So go ahead and ask questions — we’re here to help! And once again, welcome to Wikipedia!   ~ DatPolishHamster  17:23, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

May I give you a suggestion?

I suggest requesting for AutoWikiBrowser, as I see that you mainly focus on adding categories.

AutoWikiBrowser is a editing tool that helps you navigate Wikipedia easily, including fixing typos, adding navboxes, and categories super fast. You need a Windows PC I think. If not, please contact an admin about a editing tool similar, because I don't know any other editing tools. (as of now)

I'm not fully sure that you will be accepted because your account is only 1-2 days old. If you want the AutoWikiBrowser permission, please request here.

Some tips are to make a request explaining why and show that you deserve the right. For more info and to help you with your request, click HERE. ~~PolishHamsteryeah 00:09, 26 February 2026 (UTC)

Ah! Thanks, I'm using the HotCat tool which is handy. I'm about complete on the 1940s color film category:
- I've another 40 films to investigate adding, I've only their titles in the source language or what have you.
- It might be worthwhile splitting it into sub-categories by year as 400 items in one list is maybe a bit too many. In time! Popeadam (talk) 00:37, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
On your 3rd notice, that is a good idea, as there are quite many films taken in the 1940s (from what i've seen!).
But you will have to notice this, you will have to continue it year by year, until there is a decade where you can't find enough films.
I checked Google, and it said that the first film was made in 1908, hence suggesting that you should add a category, possibly by the name of "Early Color Films".

Already exists:
Category:Early color films
...as do categories for 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930s colour films. I've just added the 1940s category as it was missing. Not sure if I'll have the willpower to generate one for 1950s colour films though, there are over 3,500 of them.... Popeadam (talk) 00:57, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
