2025 Singaporean general election

Hey, I see you are a major editor for the article, and tbh I'm trying to align it similarly to 2022 Serbian general election, which is a Good Article. So, actually for some stuff you added, like the parties' ideologies, can you also add citations for their respective alignments? Also the table of vacated seats require citations. Try to ensure people don't add mothership links and use reputable sources (like CNA and Straits Times). Thanks.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 03:18, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

Hi @ZKang123:, I also want to work on giving some updates to the article and make it more akin to the other popular elections such as the 2024 United States presidential election, 2024 United Kingdom general election, and the 2024 Japanese general election, but I also doing my best to get these articles up to speed. I had a record on helping out doing into the 2020 Singaporean general election and the 2023 Singaporean presidential election, along with some other projects I did that focused on a Singaporean trending topic. If there is anything fell short, such as the Mothership website (though it is also a reputable source), we seek your understanding. Anyway thanks for the message and that prove me that I can do even better in the future. I cannot wait to see how it will end in the election. Cheers. Sculture65 (talk) 15:09, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
Hey there, just chipping in here as a talkpage stalker haha! In my opinion, despite the news accreditation etc, I do not think Mothership will be a reliable source based on past incidents indicated on its article. Its association with Philip Yeo and George Yeo does make it less neutral. While our MSM has such association as well, on WP:RSN, they are indicated as accepted reliable sources with exceptions, mothership is lower than them in my opinion. If given similar reports among them, I will pick msm over mothership first. ~ JASWE (talk) 11:54, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
@JASWE, seen your comment. I didn't realize that Mothership was a lower-reputable source, but since that they also provide news sources and also have documented some key topics as such, I've included that anyway. However, learning is part of Wikipedia, so I understand it was everyone that can come to work on the article. Cheers. Sculture65 (talk) 11:01, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
There's enough controversial points that I personally will not recommend it. While they do have press accreditation from the government, they are allowed to report on news but generally they are behind on reporting compared to CNA, ST etc. There is also the additional of "human interest information" that make it tabloid ish (see their other many human interest information articles). I am not stopping other editors from using it but for me, I can easily find a CNA, ST, 8world, Asiaone article as a replacement most of the time. ~ JASWE (talk) 12:20, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

Seeing your edits for the electoral boundary changes, I might also not encourage using Facebook or generally other social media platforms as main sources. Also, you don't need citations in the lead. I might keep the WP and other parties' website sources, but even then they are also considered self-published. I rely more on CNA and ST for reports.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 11:05, 12 March 2025 (UTC)

@ZKang123: I see. I take note of that. I too excited for the polling day and how the ending is gonna be exciting. Let's see what happens next. Sculture65 (talk) 11:26, 12 March 2025 (UTC)
I noted some of your edits and I'm just a bit concerned that you might be verging into WP:OR especially when you try to bring up Seletar and Punggol having increased population. If you can, try to find citations from news reports that directly mentioned that rather than being inferred (because I can't find it in the EBRC report). Also, some of the constituencies may or may not be "reinstated" but just happen to be constituencies sharing the name as the previous. Nevertheless, try to cite each instance of them having existed before (which perhaps can be found in data.gov.sg or ELD past reports).--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 01:42, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
@ZKang123: OK, I see what it does, but try not to repeat or duplicate some and keep a short summary is fine. I did not know some of them are WP:OR but I doing what I can do and its things. I also asking, is AsiaOne also considered a good internet source? Sculture65 (talk) 14:43, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
Yes, it's considered reliable.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 08:58, 16 March 2025 (UTC)

Other things as election seems to come soon:

  • Try to get your own photographs of the new faces in the parties' walkabouts. When campaigning is in full swing, try to also take some photos of the rallies too.
  • Since Singapore doesn't have Freedom of Panorama (FoP), we can only take photos of banners and posters from afar than up close.
  • From this article, it seems also political parties have come to sell merchandise. Try to get photos of these sales if you can.
  • We try not to take photographs of polling stations since they are generally not allowed.

Just hoping we get enough documentation of this year's elections.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 04:22, 24 March 2025 (UTC)

Not too sure about this, but I will do my best. And perhaps now it is a very good time for Pre-election day events of the 2025 Singaporean general election to be published? Sculture65 (talk) 10:07, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
Yeah, that article is kinda good. I think also you can go into more detail of where the parties initially planned to contest plus the respective parties' leadership changes.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 02:53, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
I suggest putting more analysis in that pre-election day events at the moment; I'm trying to keep the political issues subsection short and focused and more on policies (particularly at the national level) than just sentiments on the ground. In fact, I think some of these analysis could be further elaborated in the respective constituencies. Sorry if I keep getting in the way of what you are adding and editing.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 10:15, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
@ZKang123 Singapore has FoP... just that we cannot take photos of banners and posters up close due to copyright of 2D artwork which is banners and posters are. – robertsky (talk) 04:22, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for informing me about that, @Robertsky, I will help you continue contributing the article, including post-election ones. Sculture65 (talk) 09:19, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

PBB

Sorry, but actually if you can remember, what are PBBs really? Are they like debates or just broadcasting time when the party can launch their campaign speeches on air without debate?--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 13:05, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

Sorry, I accidentally typo on my end. I was actually meant PPB, not PBB. Sculture65 (talk) 13:50, 16 April 2025 (UTC)

Able to go to Woodlands?

Hey, just wanna ask, are you able to scout the rally sites today evening at Woodlands? Thanks.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 01:18, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

Hi there, I know it's kind of personal, but I may not be able to see some due to family matters, but thanks for the suggestion anyways. Sculture65 (talk) 02:44, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

Advise for updating results

Hey there, once again. As for now, I rather if you first update the results on Results of the 2025 Singaporean general election before we shift the content over. Once counting begins, I mean. All the best and remember to vote!--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 03:11, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

I may not be able to do so, but I do my best. And this election did coincide with the 2025 Australian federal election; I will standby the Post-election updates. Meanwhile, I did my best on including pertaining campaign topics including all incidents like Hazel Poa's talking about the Bukit Gombak incident etc. and so on. Anyway, same to you, vote wisely. Your vote is secret. Sculture65 (talk) 03:35, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi robertsky, glad to see the message, as I just saw it today. I check my availability first and see if I can make it there, but otherwise see you then, and for the sake of SG60 celebrations, this Wikipedia group is here to not just for the edits, but also to shape the nation of SG60. Thanks for the note. Sculture65 (talk) 08:54, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
Hi @Robertsky, I had plans on that day, therefore I did not attend due to family matters but I still will continue to support the Wikipedia group. I see where else I will do this time from here. I may attend the next Singapore Meetup in the near future if I am available, but still it is a good experience for me and contributing Wikipedia articles like in the celebration of SG60. Anyway, thank you for the understanding and thanks for messaging me about this. Have a good weekend! Sculture65 (talk) 14:02, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
Heya, no worries! I aim to get the next month's date and location out earlier. Hopefully you can come. :) – robertsky (talk) 10:02, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
