1938 FIFA world cup - Match times
Hi Tanonero,
for your information, I have added a reference for kick off times at 1938 FIFA world cup from a French sport newspaper edited in June 1938. Please don't refer to RSSSF source as a liable one as, according to my experience, it is full of typos.
Regards, Genland PZ (talk) 12:52, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Genland PZ: Hi and thank you for your message. If I remember correctly (and I kinda on the fly right now), I actually used FIFA's report (by restoring an archived version), which should supersede any other source. Also, RSSSF is considered highly credible and is used widely on Wikipedia, so there's nothing wrong with using it (but I didn't in this case). Tanonero (msg) 12:55, 10 December 2025 (UTC)

1938 FIFA World Cup - France Belgium goals and general references for statistics
Hi Tanonero,
here two reports of the France-Belgium match from original French newspapers:
Le petit parisien:
https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k664578r/f6.item
Paris soir:
https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k7644313v/f7.item.zoom
Here from a Belgian newspaper:
Le Soir
https://uurl.kbr.be/1601733/p1
You can find much more by yourself if you look at https://gallica.bnf.fr/selections/fr/html/presse-et-revues (free acces)
Or
https://opac.kbr.be/Library/detailstatic.aspx?RSC_BASE=SYRACUSE&RSC_DOCID=17172248&TITLE=&_lg=fr-BE (need to log-in for free).
You refer to a compilating site mainly taking informatiin from RSSSF:
https://www.rsssf.org/tables/38full.html
As already told, this is a good work site but it is full of typos and errors and needs to be checked everytime.
A better site for statistics of European teams (even if full of commercial pop-ups) is this one:
https://eu-football.info/_match.php?id=6156
All that said, please revert back the minutes of goals of the France-Belgium match on the 1938 FIFA World Cup page, as the current minutes are not correct.
Regards,
Genland PZ (talk) 12:39, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Tanonero,
- You understand that these "official reports" were created after the "net" available information in recent years, there is no reason to admit more reputation to these pages than to 1938 contemporary news. As an evidence, they are no longer available on the FIFA site. Genland PZ (talk) 17:23, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Genland PZ: Hi, and thanks for getting in touch. Besides those sources, the match reports are currently using FIFA’s official match report, which should take precedence over third-party sources, regardless of how reputable they are. If you want to dispute the reliability of the FIFA source in favour of the other sources you are proposing, I’d suggest opening a discussion on the article’s talk page, or at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football.
