Re Ethiopian Epic

Thanks for getting the thread to a speedy close :) out of curiosity, why do it as an ordinary admin action, instead of as an individual AE action or by a consensus of AE admins? theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 02:02, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

@Theleekycauldron: To be honest, at least in part, old habits; we didn't used to do indefinite AE blocks. But also there's recognition among us that the problematic behavior wasn't topic-specific, so it didn't feel as much like a CTOP restriction. I'm not worried about this being reversed by a different administrator, but if you think it's important I will amend it. Vanamonde93 (talk) 02:25, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
Nope, that totally makes sense – thanks for the clarification! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 02:39, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
@Theleekycauldron did ArbCom change the rules on this and I missed it? If so it looks like someone didn't properly update the table on CTOP or this footnote. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 04:11, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
@Barkeep49, change in what way? My understanding is that AE blocks are only "AE blocks" for the first year, and thereafter become ordinary blocks, so it wouldn't have occurred to me that it couldn't be an indef, since the AE part is time-bound anyway. -- asilvering (talk) 04:17, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
So my old habits are in fact current, eh. Vanamonde93 (talk) 04:47, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
That's a sort my understanding but I read leeky as saying something else. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 05:25, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
Not for nothing but the contentious topic procdures also say Before imposing a contentious topic restriction, administrators must consider whether a regular administrative action would be sufficient to reduce disruption to the project. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 05:24, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Unfortunately this isn't over as we now have a single purpose TA ~2026-19738-44 (same TA as ~2026-12969-72) who's aggressively defending Ethiopian Epic at the SPI case page. Same battleground behavior of accusing those who share their sockpuppetry concerns as "fishing" or "targeting editing opponents". Some1 (talk) 15:48, 4 April 2026 (UTC)

I mean, that's exactly what's happening there, so they're correct on the merits, at least. -- asilvering (talk) 22:54, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
I agree with Asilvering. There's nothing actionable in the TA's edits, and the named accounts have been extensively investigated already. Being a single-purpose account is suspicious but not sanctionable in and of itself. Vanamonde93 (talk) 23:01, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
So no action on the TA I mentioned? They show up, participate in 3 RfCs in the same topic area in a month, and vanish again. I get this is a tough case but I don't see how that's not worth a check. —Ganesha811 (talk) 23:09, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you're hoping we can say. "That's sus"? It is indeed sus. But that's all I've got. -- asilvering (talk) 23:25, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
I don't know the full procedures for checkusers, but there's no way to compare TAs to blocked or banned accounts? —Ganesha811 (talk) 23:41, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
Not openly, so you are, I am afraid, going to have to settle for "that's sus". -- asilvering (talk) 23:43, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
The IP Information tool thingy says the TA ~2026-14073-12 is using a proxy (Wikipedia_talk:Temporary_account_IP_viewer#Proxy_use). Isn't that blockable under Wikipedia:Open_proxies#CheckUser? (High Professor was blocked for the same reason by Barkeep49.) Some1 (talk) 00:43, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
No. You may be interested to read User:Asilvering/How IPs work. -- asilvering (talk) 00:46, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the link to the essay. It just feels like one big "coincidence" to me that the IP Information tool shows something about proxies regarding these following TAs, who all share the same POV:
But I'll defer to the CU experts here and keep my mouth shut. Some1 (talk) 01:46, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
They're sus for more reasons than that. But that's all I've got. Everything involved is ECP'd at this point anwyay. -- asilvering (talk) 02:04, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
I'll just add that while shared POV can be reason for suspicion, it is rarely sufficient to sanction as sockpuppetry, especially when the dispute in question has recently been a prominent news item. I am not exonerating anyone, but there's simply not enough here to block. Vanamonde93 (talk) 15:53, 5 April 2026 (UTC)

Arbitration Enforcement Appeal

Hi Vanamonde93, a sanction you imposed is under appeal here. Your input would be appreciated. Riposte97 (talk) 12:43, 25 March 2026 (UTC)

Using a mirror website and changing original work and everything of mine that has been more than verified by different universities, companies etc And heavily cited also I don't deal with bots or anything. The packer name i noticed is the same who was a ex back years ago and his name is not no John or no Ryan neither! The only Ryan I met was awhile back in which I know he didn't contribute nothing to me or my original work I was doing for over 30 years! So I will go ahead and take this to the next step and press charges to continue onward from years ago. And I can login without needing a email because it's my Wikipedia page that is a original domain belongs to me and my family etc.. The damage and vandalism etc it is mandated that I can sue and do whatever I need to do what is needed and necessary. Please take care of yourself and your barn statements including the people who are not in my life and they don't know what they are talking about nor doing. ~2026-24999-88 (talk) 04:00, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
I'm not sure why you are addressing this to me and what you think I may have done to offend you. Please note that you may not make legal threats on Wikipedia. Repeating these will get you blocked. Vanamonde93 (talk) Vanamonde93 (talk) 04:13, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

Deletion review for Adam Lanza

~2026-21089-04 has asked for a deletion review of Adam Lanza. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. —Cryptic 03:36, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

...and now on today's DRV page, too. We'll see if this one lasts any longer. —Cryptic 15:53, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know. I'll chime in. Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:57, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

North Vancouver station

Hey, trust you're well. You closed the relevant AFD. It seems like you're still on. Would you mind deleting the North Vancouver station disambiguation page? It's in the way of a page move; see Talk:North Vancouver station (BC Rail)#Text-shuffling. Also Talk:North Vancouver station and the redirect North Vancouver station (disambiguation) would need to go too. Cleaning this up as an admin would be much more elegant than doing so as a page mover. Thanks. Graham87 (talk) 03:37, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

No problem, give me a few minutes to understand precisely what I'm doing. Vanamonde93 (talk) 03:39, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
Cool, tagged a couple before I saw your message. If I remember correctly that should autofill the deletion reason for you. Reading G14 about disambiguation pages, which almost applies but technically not quite, makes my head hurt. Graham87 (talk) 03:43, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
No problem. Should be handled, let me know if I missed something. Vanamonde93 (talk) 03:44, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
Thanks, perfect; will fix up the links now. Graham87 (talk) 03:46, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
The station links template now has a redlink in a couple of places and isn't the most intuitive, if you wouldn't mind taking care of that? Vanamonde93 (talk) 03:47, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
I think I've fixed everything. This area of Wikipedia isn't usually my department, either. Graham87 (talk) 04:04, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

MLTT

Hi, Vanamonde93;

I am @Mel496's "mentor." They created the Major League Table Tennis article. While perhaps they were not clear, I am quite certain they intentd to work on the article, and I will assist if-requested. If you would be willing to draftify, I'd appreciate it, as I'm sure they would, as well. Cheers   MWFwiki (talk) 18:18, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

@MWFwiki: As a rule I'm reluctant to draftify without someone indicating an interest in working on the draft, as in those cases it is simply a longer road to deletion. If you wish to work on it though you are welcome. I have undeleted the page and moved it to Draft:Major League Table Tennis. Best, Vanamonde93 (talk) 18:22, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
If they don't, I will try my hand at it... just not my area of interest. I appreciate it!   MWFwiki (talk) 18:25, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
Thank you both so much. Its very much appreciated Mel496 (talk) 23:19, 13 April 2026 (UTC)

You are invited to participate in the Destubathon of the Americas, a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to £2000 ($2680) in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:42, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello, old friend.

Just dropping to say hello. :) It's really been overdue and I wish I had done this a lot earlier. I mostly exist in Obi-Wan spirit form, gnoming around a little when reading an article, and maybe rarely even physically showing myself (like right now) and getting involved a bit. I avoid India-related pages.

My time active here I cherish. I still share stories with my family and real-life friends about the work I've seen people do and even had the privilege to work with. I do end up seeing edits by the good folks I worked with before and smile, but a handful of times, I see some blocked and/or burned out and more recently, even deceased. All this is part of life after all I guess. I put my kind words for them after the other well-wishers even though I'm late by years. Then a thought occurred to me, why see them only when it's too late? Maybe subconsciously that was the reason I only thought of doing this now, fearing what I would see here.

I sure hope you're doing fine in real life as you are here. You've just stacked up FAs I see, among other numerous things. With the 25th WP anniversary passing, we'll soon be approaching 15 years being here. Time really flies, doesn't it. Now off you go, back handling your Mop-related responsibilities. Best regards. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 07:23, 16 April 2026 (UTC)

@Ugog Nizdast: Very good to see you! Every so often I see your name on my watchlist and it makes me happy. I could not tell you where the years went. I have been plugging away, here as in real life. I hope to be here for a while yet. I trust all is well with you too? Perhaps we will see you return to the activity levels of yore someday? Be well, Vanamonde93 (talk) 17:49, 16 April 2026 (UTC)

About Code Orange (band)

Hello @Vanamonde93, sorry to bother you at this time, I noticed you undid an edit I made because "We don't need more genres in the infobox."

How come this is the case? I am only asking because the band (the article is about) is listed on the "List of nu metalcore bands" article... Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 11:15, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

@Giorgio Bicchiere: It wasn't me who made that edit, though I can see why you thought that. It was Bowling is life. Perhaps you could ask them, or ask on the talk page of the article?
I will note that in general a lot of genre labels tend to fail our policy on verifiability. Supporting any additions with good sources will help them stick around. Best, Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:07, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
I have added nu metalcore to the body of the Code Orange article. It only has one source right now so it shouldn't be in the infobox as a primary genre. And generally speaking, it's recommended to keep the infobox genres down to four genres. The other infobox genres have more sources than nu metalcore. Not every genre a band is described as needs to be in the infobox. The body of the article is where we can go into more detail. Hope that clears it up. Bowling is life (talk) 17:34, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
OK! My apologies @Vanamonde93! I must have misread something... Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 22:38, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification @Bowling is life! Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 00:42, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

Ban

Can I seek clarity on what articles I am banned from? I am unsure what it means. JJNito197 (talk) 18:27, 25 April 2026 (UTC)

@JJNito197: The details are described here. You may not make any edits related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Where a page is central to the conflict (such as Gaza war) you may not edit it at all. When a page is tangentially related (such as Arthur Balfour) you may only edit those pieces which do not pertain to the Arab-Israeli conflict. You may not participate in discussions of the conflict anywhere on the English Wikipedia. There are certain narrow exceptions, described at WP:BANEX. Vanamonde93 (talk) 00:16, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
Are the following April 27 edits violations:
They appear to be good faith oversteps and not a flagrant disregard, so a warning is sufficient, if merited. ← Metallurgist (talk) 09:11, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
@Metallurgist: The scope of the ban is the Arab-Israeli conflict, not all of Palestinian/Israeli history. So the first two edits are okay unless you can show that they're somehow related to the conflict. The third edit is indeed a bit problematic. @JJNito197: Please be aware there's no exception to the ban for uncontroversial edits. The exceptions are very narrow. Vanamonde93 (talk) 19:48, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
Understood. Thank you. JJNito197 (talk) 20:29, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Question

Hello, about this sanction, should Turkey be included as well since all of the diffs are related to it? KhndzorUtogh (talk) 21:20, 25 April 2026 (UTC)

@KhndzorUtogh: The scope of the CTOP is "Armenia, Azerbaijan, and related ethnic conflicts". Turkey is not by default covered by that CTOP, though some aspects of Turkish history are, such as the Armenian genocide, and those aspects are covered by the sanction. You could ask the community to broaden the sanction, but it's a bit academic, as Nyxaros has chosen to vanish. Vanamonde93 (talk) 00:11, 26 April 2026 (UTC)

Transformers Titanium

Transformers is a 2027 American upcoming  science fiction action film[7] based on Hasbro's toy line of the same name. Directed by McG from a screenplay by John Brancato and Michael Ferris, it is the eighth installment of the Transformers film series. The film stars Stephen Bender as Sam Witwicky, a teenager who gets caught up in a war between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, two factions of shape-shifting alien robots. The Autobots and Decepticons both seek a powerful artifact called the AllSpark, to win the war that has devastated their home planet of Cybertron. common, oscar issac, Jordan peele, Marielle Jaffe, Emily Browning, John Turturro, and Kathy Bates also star, while Peter Cullen and Hugo Weaving voice Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively ShahnewazBhuiyan2013 (talk) 22:21, 26 April 2026 (UTC)

@ShahnewazBhuiyan2013: Is there an upcoming film I'm unaware of, or are you writing fan fiction? If it's the latter, might I suggest you will have a more productive time on a website dedicated to that pursuit? Vanamonde93 (talk) 22:44, 26 April 2026 (UTC)

LTH-Baas

Hi, thank you for deleting my article (sarcasm). Please advise, is there a possibility to get the last edition of it? I hoped, it remained in history somethere, but cannot find anything. Urrman (talk) 16:00, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

@Urrman: The history has been deleted, meaning that only administrators can access it. What would you like the deleted version for? Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:30, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
I would like to save the recent source of the artice for my own archive/portfolio. Urrman (talk) 06:46, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Just checking for any block evasions here

Hi. Is there any way you could CU Pizza35's account and see if he block evades? He is certainly WP:YOUNG, and it seems that he clearly didn't want to be blocked (far too many RevDels on his talk page) and that he may evade the block. Just in case, cheers! Jetwindy-☎️-✈️ 22:22, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

There is in fact a blocked sock associated with Pizza35, but I don't feel the need to check again unless you've seen someone that's likely to be them. Vanamonde93 (talk) 00:50, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

May 2026 Administrator Election – Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • April 29 – May 5: Call for candidates
  • May 8–12: Discussion phase
  • May 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

WikiCup 2026 May newsletter

The second round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 April. As a reminder for contestants who just joined or are unaware of recent changes to our round-points system, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 2 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; nine scored over 500; and fourteen scored over 300. The top seven contestants had at least one featured article (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 13 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 106 good articles, 22 good-topic articles and more than 40 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 3 In the News articles, and they have conducted over 200 reviews. The tournament points table has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Technical news

  • Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
  • The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
  • Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
  • Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
  • The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
