type:glacier added for glacier coordinates

Following WT:GEO#type:waterbody for rivers, glaciers, WP:GEO#type:T now includes "type:glacier" instead of "type:waterbody" for glaciers. "type:waterbody" is mainly used for lakes. Some of the glaciers were using "type:landmark". Coordinates will be updated to include this. Sample coordinates:

which would render on Aletsch Glacier as:

46°26′32″N 8°04′38″E

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). Capitalization for ice sheets

I would like to propose a standardization of capitalization for individual ice sheets, in all article titles and bodies.

Proposal: when "ice sheet" appears within the name of a specific ice sheet (e.g., Greenland ice sheet, Antarctic ice sheet, Laurentide ice sheet), it should be capitalized (e.g., Greenland Ice Sheet, Antarctic Ice Sheet, Laurentide Ice Sheet).

Reasoning: The name of a specific ice sheet is a proper noun, similar to Amazon River, Bighorn Basin, Tibetan Plateau, or South China Sea. Capitalization of classes in geographic names is the general guidance of the Wikipedia Manual of Style (Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Names of classes), barring geographic classes with well-established norms not to capitalize.

Context: Capitalization of names for specific ice sheets has long been treated inconsistently in the scientific literature, an issue also reflected in the Google Books database (e.g., https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=Laurentide+Ice+Sheet&year_start=1960&year_end=2019&corpus=en-2019&smoothing=3&case_insensitive=true). The current status on Wikipedia is that both forms can be found, both in article titles and bodies. In some older article histories, the page has been moved to reflect proper-noun capitalization, but have been moved back---possibly to maintain presumed consistency with the other non-capitalized pages.

However, where orthographically focused guidance exists, it typically supports the use of capitalization:

Journal publication emerging from the Greenland Language Secretariat and Danish government on Greenland orthography uses "Greenland Ice Sheet."^[1]
The SCAR Composite Gazetteer, a database maintained by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research with all the names that have been published in national gazetteers by 22 contributing countries, exclusively lists individual ice sheets with proper-noun capitalization (e.g., East Antarctic Ice Sheet, West Antarctic Ice Sheet).^[2]
Style guide for American Geophysical Union journals: gives "East Antarctic Ice Sheet" as a specific example of correct capitalization for geographic names.^[3]
Scholarly articles focused on stratigraphic orthography use "Laurentide Ice Sheet."^[4]
Encyclopedia Britannica capitalizes ice sheet for all proper nouns.^[5]

I propose to first edit and move articles to correct capitalization within titles and the body. I have identified the following article titles which currently do not follow this capitalization rule:

Additionally, many other pages use such names, which should be made consistent over time.
