This is a WP:WikiProject page, so it is focused on bringing together editors interested in improving Oceans-related articles. I suppose you could say that is "better educating people on oceans". CMD (talk) 01:06, 28 September 2025 (UTC)

Hi - I am a senior research scientist at the University of Washington Cooperative Institute for Climate, Ocean and Ecosystem Studies and a member of the NOAA PMEL Ocean Climate Research group, the group that funds and maintains Ocean Station Papa. I just came across the Wikipedia page today on our mooring and am very confused by the writeup here. It seems to have nothing to do with the measurements made at the mooring but instead focuses on a NASA EXPORTS campaign. Can this EXPORTS campaign get its own Wikipedia entry instead? We'd like to put our own content here and this text in Section 4 (why section 4??) is distracting to our main objectives for these observations. Thank you for your consideration. Hi @~2026-19747-95, I assume this refers to Station P (ocean measurement site). If you have detailed comments on the article, you can post them more directly at Talk:Station P (ocean measurement site). Is there a particular write up done by a party independent to you, such as a news organization or unaffiliated scientific publication, that you could point to as a good example? A recent edit to Pacific Ocean added fathoms as the primary unit for various depths in the lead section. I'm just wondering what people here think of using this as a primary measurement term for a Wikipedia audience, it seems somewhat arcane. Mariana Trench does use fathoms, but for historical measurements and as a conversion from metres as the primary unit. The fathom article notes that metres are the main modern unit in nautical charts, but that the U.S. Hydrographic Office uses feet and fathoms. My own feeling is that as Pacific Ocean did use metric primary units before, then fathoms should, at best, only be used in a conversion. Thanks, Declangi (talk) 09:25, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

Mariana Trench isn't close to the US, and feet are commonly understood there, so I see no need for this mostly historical unit in that article. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 11:30, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
