The Ballad of the Brown King (sous-titre : A Christmas Cantata) est une cantate de Noël composée par Margaret Bonds entre 1954 et 1960, créée cette dernière année.
Cette cantate a été écrite en hommage au roi mage Balthazar, dans une première version courte de 1954 (créée la même année), puis révisée en 1960 pour sa version longue, publiée par Sam Fox Publishing Company (en) en 1961[1]. Sur un livret de Langston Hughes[2], l'œuvre est créée dans sa version révisée le [3],[4], au City College of New York, par les solistes, le chœur et l'orchestre de cet établissement, sous la direction de la compositrice.
