岡村博

1929年京都帝国大学理学部を卒業^[1]し、同学の教授を務めた^[2][3]。

主な業績として、常微分方程式の初期値問題を研究し、解の一意性のための必要十分条件を導いた^[4]。これにより、20世紀前半の微分方程式論で最も重要な問題の一つに終止符が打たれた。その他の業績としては、積分法の平均値の定理の改良がある。

第二次世界大戦中は航空力学の研究にも携わった^[5]が、戦後の食糧難による栄養失調で、42歳の若さで亡くなった。

父は法学者・弁護士の岡村司。教え子に溝畑茂・山口昌哉がいる。
