Hong Wang (chinesisch 王虹; * 1991) ist eine chinesische Mathematikerin, die über Fourier-Analyse und geometrische Maßtheorie arbeitet und vor allem für den Beweis der dreidimensionalen Kakeya-Vermutung (gemeinsam mit Joshua Zahl) bekannt ist.[1]2026 erhielt sie für ihre Leistungen die Fields-Medaille.[2]

Leben

Wang stammt aus dem autonomen Gebiet Guangxi.[3] Sie studierte bis zum Bachelor 2011 an der Peking-Universität und dann bis zum Master 2014 an der Universität Paris-Süd, parallel erwarb sie ein Ingenieursdiplom an der École polytechnique. Sie promovierte 2019 bei Larry Guth am Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[4][5]

Von 2019 bis 2021 war sie am Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.[4][6] Seit 2021 war sie Assistant Professor an der University of California, Los Angeles[7] und seit 2023 Associate Professor am Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences of New York University.[8] Seit 2025 ist sie Professorin am Institut des hautes études scientifiques in Bures-sur-Yvette und weiterhin Professorin am Courant Institute.[9]

2022 erhielt sie den Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Prize für Fortschritte bei der Restriktions-Vermutung, der lokalen Glättungsvermutung und verwandten Problemen.[4][7][10] 2025 wurde sie mit dem Salem-Preis ausgezeichnet.[11] Ebenfalls 2025 erhielt sie den Ostrowski-Preis[12] und die ICCM Medal of Mathematics in Gold. 2026 wurde sie mit dem Clay Research Award ausgezeichnet,[13] im selben Jahr erhielt sie den New Horizons in Mathematics Prize. Sie war 2026 eingeladener Sprecher auf dem Internationalen Mathematikerkongress. 2026 wurde sie mit der Fields-Medaille ausgezeichnet.[14]
