The XLIX legislative period of the Chilean Congress was elected in the 1993 Chilean parliamentary election and served until 11 March 1998.[1]

Notes

  1. Miguel Otero Lathrop, (RN), obtained the third majority in 1989 with 199,856 votes (15.31%) in the Western Metropolitan Region; he took office after the assassination of UDI senator Jaime Guzmán Errázuriz on April 1, 1991.
  2. María Elena Carrera Villavicencio, an independent socialist candidate in 1989, obtained 221,080 votes (15.48%) in the Eastern Metropolitan Region; she took the vacant seat after the resignation of DC senator Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle in 1993.
  3. César Ruíz Danyau, commander-in-chief of the Chilean Air Force, died of a pulmonary embolism on 21 November 1990 before completing his senatorial term. According to the 1980 Constitution of Chile, the seat was not filled since Institutional Senators were presidentially appointed for 8 years.
