Eiga.com features various movie information such as the latest movie information, movie news, original movie reviews by professional critics and the editorial department, and user ratings and review posts.[6] The website also features word-of-mouth information about movies written by users.[3] According to the website, it lists 60,000 different works.[5] In May 2009, website release the first service on a domestic movie information site to introduce unreleased work information in Japan called “Cinema Backstreet”.[7] In July 2015, the website added a feature called “check-in” that allows users to add “favorites” and create a “favorite page” in their accounts. Additionally, the website also launches Anime Hack (アニメハック) in cooperation with "Tokyo Anime News", which provides various information about Japanese animes such as news, information on anime productions, voice actors, and theatrical information such as television schedule.[8][9]

According to CNET Japan, by 2007, Eiga.com received over 250,000 monthly visitors, and before being acquired by Kakaku.com, it was one of the largest independent sites.[2] By 2025, the website received 100 million monthly views and more than 20 million unique monthly users. The websites generated ¥430 million (US$3.92 million) in revenue during the fiscal year 2024.[3]

An April Fools’s joke by the website in 2016 drew criticism after making various parody teaser posters of the movie 2015 film The Martian with pictures and caption of charcters such as Sadako from the The Ring but also mocking controversial figures like Donald Trump, who was then-running as the president of the United States, with the captions ”7 billion people want him to lose the election” (70億人が彼の落選を願っている), and Hirotada Ototake, who was allegedly discovered to have an affair with five women, with a caption ”7 billion people were astonished by his incredible stamina” (70億人が彼の絶倫にびっくりぽん). The joke was later taken down, and the website has issued an apology.[10]

In December 2024, the website issued an apology following an overbooking issue for the preview of the film Mufasa: The Lion King.[11]

The website opens a mini theatre called “Eiga.com Cinema” in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture in collaboration with the city on April 26, 2014.[12] It was closed on November 9, 2018.[13][14]

The current editor-in-chief of the website since February 2026 is Fumitaka Otsuka.[15]
