Wikipedia notability standards and source breakdown
Wikipedia’s Notability Standards for music proposes specific criteria for Performers and ensembles as well as composers and lyricists, many of which are satisfied by the career of Cherie Lily as substantiated by this article’s citations. Wikipedia's rules require only one be met. Some of them are:
Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself.
As elaborated below, there are at least 31 published items from independent publications that focus specifically on Lily’s career contributions and achievements, and I am also providing 19 sources that discuss the subject substantially without focusing on her as a main subject. These sources include Out (magazine), Time Out (magazine, Vice Media, BrooklynVegan, Get Out! Magazine, Billboard (magazine), Variety (magazine), and Interview (magazine).
Has received non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country.
Cherie Lily’s presence as a performer in Andrew W.K.’s band during the entirety of the 2010 Warped Tour was mentioned in the press widely (we cited The Orange County Register but feel free to Google many others). The ensemble also performed at Revolution Live (as covered in two articles in New Times Broward-Palm Beach) in Fort Lauderdale and Festival Supreme (photographed for Getty Images) in Los Angeles. As a solo artist, she performed in the Sled Island Music and Arts Festival (covered in The A.V. Club.)
Is an ensemble that contains two or more independently notable musicians, or is a musician who has been a reasonably prominent member of two or more independently notable ensembles.
Cherie Lily has been a member of Andrew W.K.’s live ensemble (which also contained members of Obituary (band)), and To Live and Shave in L.A.. These are both notable based on Wikipedia’s standards.
Has become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability.
Cherie Lily’s song “Body” was listed in Resident Advisor’s “A History of Ballroom Anthms in Ten Tracks”

MTV aired their commercial for The Challenge, featuring Cherie Lily’s “Kiss My Lips” frequently, resulting in millions of views. Lily provided backing vocals to the song "Slight Work," a single by Wale (rapper) featuring Big Sean and produced by Diplo. The music video, directed by Chris Brown would be in rotation across various television channels, and the song would be broadcast nationally on the radio many times over. The Presumably, viewers would have also seen Lily prominently featured in the music video for “Music Is Worth Living For” by Andrew W.K. and Marina and The Diamonds's "Primadonna." The video she produced for an Yvie Oddly and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo collaboration was debuted by Entertainment Tonightand has been viewed millions of times.

Thoughts on citations and notoriety for Cherie Lily
Thank you, editors of all stripes, for viewing this page. I want to provide some important context as I am waiting for this article's passage.
- The main biographical outline of this article is sourced from independent, trustworthy, and established press outlets, the articles focusing on Cherie Lily as a central subject. This includes industry-leading publications in LGBTQ+ culture (Out Magazine, Get Out!, Edge Media, Here TV) and especially music (Billboard, Vice, Impose, Xex, Alt Press, TimeOut, Resident Advisor, BrooklynVegan, LA Weekly). Some non-editorial music merchant or industry websites (
Spotify,Itunes, GRAMMYs,Discogs) are used to provide trustworthy credit background to Lily's collaborations with high-notoriety artists - EDIT: all of which are cited with significant secondary sources. A couple YouTube videos posted by Lily or her label should be seen as archives of televised coverage (CBS fitness segment, live performance as part of Andrew W.K.'s band on Conan on TBS [EDIT: now using the Andrew W.K. archives website rather than YouTube], MTV reality show commercial featuring Lily's song, a Pitchfork mini-doc featuring Lily in a recording session for a Grammy-nominated album, her appearance in the music video for Marina & The Diammonds's "Primadonna" - a hit which has its own Wiki page). - I want to stress the notoriety of the collaborators and clients mentioned throughout the article. All of them have their own Wikipedia pages, demonstrating each of their levels of notoriety. Many participated in Rupaul's Drag Race, a TV show nicknamed "the Super Bowl of Drag," which is both an indication of and contributor to their notoriety. Yvie Oddly, one of Cherie Lily's frequent musical collaborators and mentioned twice in this article, won the show, as did her Voss Events client Willow Pill. That said, a number of collaborating artists (Cazwell, Andrew W.K., Kevin Aviance, Amanda Lepore, Lee "Scratch" Perry) had notoriety established before the show ever went to air. EDIT: The collaborative works (meaning Lily was a featured artist or producer on the song/video) here are covered by secondary sources, and most of those mention Lily by name, quoting her or praising her abilities.
- Cherie Lily's name is often mentioned in celebrity gossip or lifestyle publications, often her relation to her previous marriage to musician Andrew W.K. (who is currently in a relationship with another famous entertainer). However, most of these would not qualify as citations given that they only mention Lily in passing and provide no additional biographical context to Lily's (or W.K.'s) story. Therefore this article's discussion of Andrew W.K. focuses on Cherie Lily's core musical collaborations with him (there are others), which are well-substantiated and notorious by Wikipedia's standards. By and large, celebrity gossip or lifestyle articles that mention Lily are not included among this articles many references.
EDIT: I understand that the conflict of interest here means a higher bar to clear, which is why I have put so many secondary sources here. But at this point, reviewing editors are sending mixed messages; telling me to cut down on sources while simultaneously urging me to provide more. I have tried to thread this needle by providing a volume of secondary, trustworthy sources that exceeds that of your typical music article. Notwithstanding the COI, about which I have been transparent from the beginning, it's hard to imagine that musician with two features about them in Out Magazine, recently written up for producing a standout track in Billboard, a song featured on a television commercial by a major network, features on both a news show (CBS) and FIVE episodes of televised interview shows (Just Josh, Out Presents Face To Face, 3 episodes of Threesome), a live performance on Conan O'Brien, production credits for Amanda Lepore and Drag Race winners, and a musical contribution to a Grammy-nominated album, would be denied.

Comments left by AfC reviewers
Comment: Article has now been resubmitted with a source breakdown, as well as a discussion of several of Wikipedia's notability standards that the subject of this article satisfies handily. PLEASE read the talk section. I would submit that the ideal reviewer is familiar, pop music, and/or LGBTQ culture. FogleMorplethorpe (talk) 1:47, 10 April 2026 (EST)
Comment: Article will be resubmitted with a source breakdown in the Talk section. FogleMorplethorpe (talk) 20:03, 22 February 2026 (EST)
Comment: Reviewers, PLEASE consult my notes in the talk section before reviewing. Important information regarding citation and context is there. Contrary to the last reviewer's comments, only 7 of the 71 (as of Feb 9 '26) citations refer to contestants on Drag Race, only 4 of the sources dircetly mention the show. Neither Cherie Lily, nor Andrew W.K., nor Lee "Scratch" Perry, nor Cazwell, nor Kevin Aviance, nor Amanda Lepore, nor Vjuan Allure are contestants on or employees of Rupaul's Drag Race. The Wikipedia pages for each of these artists is linked for your convenience. I humbly request that any editor reviewing have some familiarity with pop and rock music, drag performance, and LGBTQ culture. FogleMorplethorpe (talk) 15:5, 9 February 2026 (UTC)

Comment: Most of the sources are around her work for contestants of Ru Paul Drag show. Excessive ref bombing with sources with no significant indepth coverage. We need to see the subject's substantial achievements that are noteworthy for a standalone article. RangersRus (talk) 11:11, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
Comment: I've taken a look and won't accept or decline. This is a difficult one for me - I've looked through the first few sections of references and I'm not sure which ones actually pass GNG, but there does seem to be some semblance of notability here. I kind of want to know which are the best WP:THREE sources. SportingFlyer T·C 16:03, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Reviewers, please look at the talk section for information you may find helpful regarding sourcing and notoriety. FogleMorplethorpeC 11:06, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Try to cut down the sources and the article. Primary sources usually shouldn't be used (e.g. from her youtube) for the majority of the statements. There are reliable sources here though, like news articles with lots of coverage from reliable outlets, so try to prioritize information from those. HurricaneZetaC 14:59, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
