esports.net article as a low quality, possibly LLM generated source
Several details in the article cites this article (https://www.esports.net/news/mobile-games/best-tetris-players/) from esports.net: namely Tolt being Canadian, a quote about his use of rolling, and as a reference for being the second best Tetris player in the world.
The article's content seems quite transparently generated from an LLM. It's language is vague, clunky, and contradictory. It clearly has little familiarity with the subject matter. It's photos are poorly cropped, stretched, and compressed. Nowhere does it specify "classic", or "NES" Tetris, and the article is tagged as relating to a mobile game. esports.net doesnt have any authority or expertise on Tetris, esports, or gaming, possessing little recognition as reliable. It's associated Twitter account has fewer than 5,000 followers.
It's slop, essentially.
Information about classic Tetris from mainstream sources is limited. Unlike regular sports, there aren't established journalism and sportswriting outlets to reference, because all secondary sources covering it are done by self-published amateurs, and primary source material are Discord server messages. While these aren't appropriate for Wikipedia, neither is this esports.net article. It's a low quality source with inaccurate information. If a coherent article cannot be written with the sources available, then it should be removed. Stolenshortsword (talk) 08:57, 9 November 2025 (UTC)

I will review this one. A.Cython(talk) 19:29, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- @A.Cython: Thank you so much! There's no rush at all if you need some time before you start your review 🙂 Cheers! Johnson524 20:41, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
I enjoyed reading the biography of one of the players of Tetris, this brought back memories from childhood. I think the article can become a GA after some issues are addressed. Nothing major but still. A.Cython(talk) 01:12, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
- @A.Cython: I'm glad to hear that! The corrections should all be done now, no pushback on anything. If there's anything else you'd like addressed or changed please let me know! Johnson524 07:27, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
Various
- No edit wars
- Neutral
- Figures look ok with appropriate figure captions
- No copyright, Earwig's Copyvio Detector gives at most 16%
- (optional and not sure about policy) Consider adding the following reference at the "External links" section, i.e.,
Structure
We want to avoid 1–2 sentence paragraphs, so
- Merge the last sentence in the lead with the previous paragraph
- I am not convinced that there is sufficient material for having a section "Personal life". Merge the info with the Tetris Career.
Prose
- He soon after began → "He began"
- of highest winning → "of the highest winning"
- of which being the → "is the"
- individual person to win → "individual to win"
- Gibson competed in and → "Gibson competed and"
- 2022 only list the → "2022 list only the" (move "only")
- Section "Notes", make sure every entry starts with a capital and ends with a full stop.
- add wikilink to YouTube one time in the lead and one more in the main body.
- remove acronym in the lead, i.e., CTM. If you do not use the acronym then do not define it.
- reach level 146: the first glitched → reach level 146, where the first glitched
- Tolt commented that victory can be achieved by outlasting an opponent because → remove "by outlasting an opponent" you have mentioned it above so it is redundant.
Sources
- Spot check: 1, 3, 4, 8, 15, 20, 38
Issues
- Tolt is an American who lives in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. citation #1 provides the info about PA as the state where he is from but not citizenship. Consider rewriting, suggesting something like "Tolt lives in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania." Otherwise, include a citation that explicitly provides this info.
Final comments
Thank you for making the changes. Congratulations in bringing a Tetris-related article to GA family! Good job! A.Cython(talk) 15:50, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
Did you know nomination
- ... that Eric Tolt rose from being a casual player of Tetris to world champion in just four years? (Source)
- ALT1 ... that Eric Tolt was the first person to achieve a "maxout" on a version of Tetris, a point in the game where the score becomes so high that it no longer registers correctly? (Source)

Johnson524, could you suggest a different hook? I am sorry but I don't find this hook interesting. There is a fact in the first paragraph "Tetris career" section that is very interesting. I would suggest it myself, but then I could not review it. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 19:31, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Coffeeandcrumbs: Ooo I'd love to hear what you had in mind! 😀 Even if you can't conduct a review, it's more important to me to have the hook be as polished as possible for the main page. Cheers! Johnson524 22:01, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Johnson524, I will have to find another DYK to review for QPQ but here goes. I suggest the following hook:

- No opinion on ALT1, other than if we are to go with that, we need to make sure that the sourcing is extra strong per WP:DYKFIRST. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:46, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
