European University of Madrid → European University – The European University of Madrid has expanded with campuses in other parts of Spain and now uses the branding "Universidad Europea" or "European University". Folkezoft (talk) 17:05, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

I think you make a good point, but I don't think the page should stay as the European University of Madrid as most sources don't use that name. Would Universidad Europea be a better alternative? Folkezoft (talk) 17:53, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

• Oppose, it appears the university itself uses "Universidad Europea" in English, so at minimum the proposed name isn't recognised merely an apparent generated translation and needs to proven to be used, let alone common. The few English sources in the article appear to use the current article name or the Spanish name, not the proposed. Neutral on whether "Universidad Europea" or "European University of Madrid" should be used as no WP:COMMONNAME argument, however I would note the current name appears to now be old, so comes under WP:NAMECHANGES if proven.

The redirect of European University to EU Business School probably should be reviewed too, as this article at least used to start with the term, so potential dab as it actually isn't one right now. DankJae 21:05, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Oppose This would require disambiguation, while the name "European University of Madrid" provides natural disambiguation. I'm not thrilled about Universidad Europea unless it's demonstrated to be well established as the name in English. Robminchin (talk) 14:02, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

European University of Madrid → Universidad Europea de MadridUniversidad Europea de Madrid – The proposed title is the institution's official and current proper name, retained untranslated on its English-language website. “European University of Madrid” is a translated form, while “Universidad Europea de Madrid” precisely identifies the legal university based in the Community of Madrid and distinguishes it from the broader Universidad Europea higher-education group. The Spanish name is also used in English by academic institutions, including the Polytechnic University of Milan. The proposed title matches the English label of Wikidata item Q2290716. This proposal differs from the July 2024 requested move, which proposed the ambiguous title “European University” and was not accepted. • Support per WP:COMMONNAME by Ngrams, as well as the name they use in English, but the translation can also remain in the lead. Although as this article includes "Universidad Europea de Valencia", technically shouldn't this be aligned with the wider Universidad Europea group? unless Valencia is spun off, as the Canaries one has an article. • Oppose per WP:ENGLISHTITLE and WP:OFFICIALNAME: "article titles are written using the English language" and "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's official name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable, English-language sources)".

"European University of Madrid" is used in independent, reliable English-language sources such as Times Higher Education and Nature. The commonly used English name is also the one that best fits the five WP:CRITERIA for article titles, in particular Recognizability: it is the most recognisable, as it actually uses English words rather than requiring readers to know Spanish; Naturalness: being in English it is what English-language users are most likely to actually search for; and Consistency: this follows the pattern of using the English name for Complutense University of Madrid, Autonomous University of Madrid, Technical University of Madrid and Charles III University of Madrid.
