Requested move 28 March 2026

Houston CometsHouston Comets (1997–2008) – A separate article should be created for the new Comets, who are a completely different franchise and related in name only. This would follow a precedent set by Portland Fire (2000–2002) and Portland Fire, and avoid confusion between the two franchises. The traditional solution of simply moving Connecticut Sun to Houston Comets may lead to WP:SIZE problems in the future, and the article may then have to be split anyways. — AFC Vixen 🦊 23:40, 28 March 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 07:51, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

Support per nom. Considering the long history of the Connecticut Sun, it makes more sense to create a separate article for the new Comets. MarcusAbacus (talk) 17:03, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
Actually, wait. It might be a case of adding disambiguation to what is currently the only "Houston Comets" article. A new article named "Houston Comets" might be needed to justify adding "(1997–2008)" to this article. So I think we should probably wait until the 2026 WNBA season is finished. MarcusAbacus (talk) 11:18, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
My current stance of supporting the move hasn't changed. I just think now is not the right time. MarcusAbacus (talk) 11:21, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
I disagree. The new Comets will reportedly take the old Comets' history, therefore its situation is more like the Cleveland Browns, where after revival one article reflects both eras. The Connecticut Sun should maintain its article, perhaps be renamed History of the Connecticut Sun, while the new Houston Comets build on the historical Houston Comets article. ParaguaneroSwag (talk) 20:40, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
I can't find any sources which back this, so in the meantime, the return of the Comets is in name only, much like what Vixen said with the Portland Fire. If the Comets do reclaim their history, it would more resemble that of the Seattle SuperSonics where a new team would reclaim the history of their former iteration. Also, there isn't a need to rename the "Connecticut Sun" article afterwards like with Oakland Raiders or Oakland Athletics. MarcusAbacus (talk) 11:12, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
It appears that the New Comets will indeed inherit the old Comets history, as seen from the official Houston Comets website. Okasin13 (talk) 01:38, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
I think they are just referencing the original incarnation of the franchise; there is no word on if they will actually continue from there records-wise. MarcusAbacus (talk) 09:22, 10 April 2026 (UTC)

Wait. Not sure if wait is an actual vote, but I think per the discussion above, we should wait until it is decided what is happening with the history and records and then move as appropriate. Looks like we have plenty of examples on what to do in either situation from other sports. Swimmer33 (talk) 12:42, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Wait. This is still in the future; WP:CRYSTAL. As commenters above noted, it's unclear if the new Comets will assume the history of the old franchise. I've added a hatnote to this article. 162 etc. (talk) 19:24, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
