Possible undue weight content

Hi. Does anyone else feel this content is WP:UNDUE? Someone has got an agenda they are pushing . DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:58, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

Can't say I'm too familiar with this particular sub-topic, but if it's only covered by routine flash-in-the-pan news reporting, our P&Gs would generally consider it undue, since articles are supposed to be based on secondary sources. Left guide (talk) 03:29, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. The sources used are reliable and secondary, but I'm not convinced that the topic carries enough weight to justify it's place in the article, both tonally and historical importance. It has a making a mountain out of a molehill feel to it. Does anyone else agree? I get that the subject matter is probably an area most people here don't want to get involved in. I could just wait and let the matter simmer and challenge the content again the future. DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:46, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
In order to comply with WP:NPOV, if the article is going to mention when did the team decide not to wear the Pride insignia (November 2025), then it also needs to mention when did they initially decide to begin wearing the insignia, I assume under the league's voluntary participation policy, and since it does not do that, then you are justified in deleting the paragraph. Awards to add onto NBA players' articles infobox

Hello. I have a question regarding awards to add to NBA players articles infobox. There are some awards such as the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, NBA Sportsmanship Award, Twyman–Stokes Teammate of the Year and NBA Hustle Award that are not included in some NBA players articles infobox. I was wondering if I could include these awards in their articles because they are noteworthy awards that I believe should be included.  Preceding unsigned comment added by AloofStorm5476 (talkcontribs) 16:22, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

Draft parameter use

Should the (NBA) draft parameter be used in cases where the player did not play in the NBA? In my opinion, it should be used when a player is eligible, and specifically when a) the player plays in the NBA at some point in their career (is in Category:Undrafted NBA players), b) if they played in the US college system where NBA draft eligibility happens automatically, c) the person formally declared for the NBA draft (even if not selected). Thoughts? Rikster2 (talk) 20:03, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

I'd accept (a) and (c)... as for (b), I have a question with American expats playing all over the world, did they apply for the NBA draft, or some accepted they were not cut for it and just played elsewhere? Can we easily find refs for some random American playing in Japan to have applied in the NBA draft? Howard the Duck (talk) 20:27, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
a player in the US college system is automatically eligible for the draft at the end of their eligibility, if they formally declare for the draft, or are automatically eligible one year after they leave school with college eligibility remaining. They do not formally declare for the NBA draft if they are a senior. I would say if the player was drafted by another league (like the PBA), the parameter could be used for that. Rikster2 (talk) 20:40, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
I don't really think a person who did not make his intentions known to play in the NBA have the NBA draft parameters used, even if that guy has automatic eligibility... again, WP:INFOBOXUSE. The infobox is meant to summarize the article. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:52, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
That is the whole thing, though. Zero college players would say no to the NBA if drafted. They do not have to declare their intentions. Tim Duncan did not declare for the draft. Rikster2 (talk) 23:19, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
Most players would also want to play for their national team but I don’t think adding "National team: Never selected" to the infobox would be a good idea. Alvaldi (talk) 23:39, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
I made this statement for players who had not played in the NBA. Hasn't the NBA Draft have the players sign up to join? I know before teams drafted anyone, including fictional characters. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:03, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
As I understand, college players who have finished their college eligibility or international players who turn 22 are automatically eligible for the NBA draft. A college player with remaining eligibility or an international player under 22 must declare for the draft to become eligible. Alvaldi (talk) 12:26, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
College players are automatically eligible when the exhaust college eligibility, declare for the draft or (in cases where they leave school to play professionally but do not declare) are eligible a year after they leave school Rikster2 (talk) 12:54, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
Yes, I understand that, but do they have to apply, or everyone just has blanket eligibility once they make the criteria? Howard the Duck (talk) 13:13, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
They do not apply for the draft in those cases, it is automatic. Rikster2 (talk) 13:58, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
I believe all three of those points should be the measures for inclusion. I generally avoid adding the draft parameter to non-American players who did not play in the collegiate system and never had any NBA consideration (such as drafting, signing or playing). It avoids situations like Miodrag Nikolić who is shown as being eligible for the 1960 NBA draft despite never coming close to being an NBA prospect; that is redundant and goes against MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE. CalDoesIt (talk) 20:44, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
If there isn't anything in the article or sources connecting him to the draft then adding it goes against MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, as the infobox is to summarize the key facts that appear in an article. Alvaldi (talk) 20:53, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
While I'm against option B per aboce, I'm fine with option C as long as there are sources that cover this. I am on the fence with option A, leaning against it. An example of a player like this would be Sergei Bazarevich. While he played 10 games for the Atlanta Hawks in 1994, there is nothing in the article that discusses him in relation with any draft and assuming we don't find sources that do, then it goes against MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE. Alvaldi (talk) 21:04, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
I do not think MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE applies. This is basic basketball player profile information. The fact that a player is (for example) 6’4 is not going to appear in an article either. But i could put “went undrafted in year XX” on every one of these articles if needed. Rikster2 (talk) 23:22, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
Not a good comparison in my opinion since one is a general information and the other is a specialised information about a thing that didn’t happen. Alvaldi (talk) 23:43, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
Expanding on this, players height and weight are often displayed in the article itself, as seen with LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Oscar Schmidt for examples. Alvaldi (talk) 11:12, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
Being drafted or not is not a “specialized thing” when it comes to a basketball player, come on now. But not being drafted out of college (or for NBA players) is also often displayed in articles. And it could be in 100% of cases if that is the requirement. (“Undrafted after his college career, X player signed with Y team …” Rikster2 (talk) 12:51, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
Probably a translation issue on my part. I meant that height and weight (and also something like DOB) are general information about a player while being drafted is more "career specific" so I don't think they are comparable. Editors could try to circumvent MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE by adding information about the individual not being drafted despite there not being any sources discussing the player in relations to the draft but that would probably go against some aspects of WP:NPOV.
Another aspect to this is that players infoboxes are already bloated, as has been often discussed, so further bloating it with information about something that didn't happen doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Alvaldi (talk) 13:59, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
All three points seem reasonable, as they're players that readers might naturally wonder, "Did they get draftted?" Take Hungarian György Golomán, who played in college in the US but never played in the NBA. (In 2018 he was not selected in the draft and ended up going first to Japan and then back to Europe. Was it a disappointment not to be able to make it to the NBA? Like all players, it is clear that I had the dream of the NBA, but it is also true that when I saw that I could not do it, I tried to achieve it as a last chance by playing in the G-League (the American development league, one step below the NBA).)Bagumba (talk) 23:24, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
