Missing books in bibliography
A book has been left out of the list. "A Short History Of Biology" Published by The Scientific Book Club, London, 1965 (green dust jacket) Mvandyke1 (talk) 08:58, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- It's not missing because the list of books on this page is not supposed to be complete. Rather, it's a selection of Asimov's books. The full bibliography is available in three versions on dedicated pages: Isaac Asimov bibliography (alphabetical), Isaac Asimov bibliography (categorical), Isaac Asimov bibliography (chronological). Incidentally, A Short History of Biology was first published by Doubleday/The Natural History Press in 1964. Darkday (talk) 16:20, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
surname pronunciation
hello guys i'm definitely a newbie here and i dont know all the details. but as a native russian i perfectly know that when you pronounce his surname Азимов you should soften the latest letter 'v' to the sound 'f' but in the ipa it says 'ˈæzɪmɒv' which makes non russian speakers pronounce it a bit off, what do you think guys, am i wrong here? Zhamelax (talk) 06:31, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hey, that’s probably the U.S-English pronunciation of ‘Asimov’. Not sure if adding the Russian ipa to the page would be of significance, according to wikipedia guidelines. Cheers! Tucotuti (talk) 12:39, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
"Foundation transplants Gibbon's Decline and Fall to far future"
I removed this claim and CodeTalker restored it with the comment "per sources". However, no source is cited for the claim. The article on the first novel says that Asimov pitched the storyline as the fall of an empire like the Roman Empire. Fair enough, but that's not at all the same as saying that Foundation "transplants" Gibbon's Decline and Fall. For one thing, Gibbon does not own the concept of the Roman Empire's fall; it was a real historical event. Foundation echoes certain causes of that actual fall (e.g. decadent emperors, supply chain vulnerability, rebellious provinces) but Asimov was writing his own story, not a mere "transplant" of Gibbon. ~2026-27607-47 (talk) 19:44, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Bringing Anti-intellectualism to the "general" public
This might be relevant nowadays. He wrote the famous essay "A cult of ignorance" in his column, which figures generally as the greatest reference when we talk about first time investigating this phenomenom (Anti-intellectualism). Notwithstanding it not being academic nor he being the first to denunce it, the essay is globally recognized. This observation perhaps stems from the research work that I am conducting on him, anyway, x ~2026-28020-88 (talk) 10:30, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
