  • Nice to see one of those mass one-game-player redirects get some attention! Will review this. BeanieFan11 (talk) 19:57, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

QPQ: Done.
Overall: Looks good. Nice work. It might be more interesting to specify that it was a police officer that he attempted to stab, which I'll leave up to the nominator. Should be good to go either way. BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:41, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

Kentucky State

In regards to the Muncie Evening Press and Star Press roster listings that said LaDuron went to Kentucky State, I believe that may be an error. Kentucky State was a historically black school, and at the time it was "Kentucky Normal and Industrial Institute for Colored Persons" (no "State"). The University of Kentucky was then known as "State University of Kentucky" so that's probably what the roster listings were referring to. However, I couldn't find any sources for LaDuron having attended the University of Kentucky. The news reports were probably confused because he attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine, which is in Kentucky. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 13:56, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

Review

Will start this review shortly. I will first review prose, where I will check for grammar, NPOV, encyclopedic tone, etc. Then I will spot-check several sources and look for proper attribution. Sorry for such a long wait. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 14:34, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

Early life and football career

hit a junior player on the jaw.[5] The hit broke the junior's jaw and knocked out several of his teeth.[5] - I would advise consolidating the sentences into one. Not necessarily this but something along the lines of: "... hit a junior player on the jaw, knocking out several of his teeth".

with assault and battery and mayhem - These terms could be linked.

He was released after $400 ($13,821 in 2025) bond was paid by his father. - Needs an "a" before $400

He joined the Phi Kappa Psi and Sigma Delta Psi fraternities that same year - More of a question but should Sigma Delta Psi be relinked per WP:REDLINK?

In August 1914, LaDuron, who was taking summer classes at Winona College, disappeared and went to New York in order to go to Belgium and join the Belgium army during World War I - Disappeared is a strong word that denotes he was not seen (when he was, just not by the crowd who was accustomed of seeing him). Consider changing the word to something else. Perhaps a more neutral wording like "drop out of school temporarily" or something like that, I would just advise we change disappeared. Also please link Belgian Army with both caps.

LaDuron then served in the United States Army Ambulance Service as a private during World War I. - Is this the rank (Private (rank))? If so please link it.

He played in one game, a start, for the Muncie Flyers of the American Professional Football Association - If this means as a "starter" player than I would advise we use starter.

Medical career and personal life

LaDuron graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. - Please add graduation date if available.

battery filed against him by Kathleen Armint - Was she a patient or had a personal relationship with LaDuron? If the source mentions it, please add something like "... Kathleen Armint, a hospital patient."

  • Actually, I don't see a source that says who she was. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:26, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

He had two children with Freda, a son named Jacques and a daughter named Suzanne - Change to "He had two children with her, ..." since we know who it is

On September 16, 1937, Freda disappeared from Muncie and was never found - I advise we use the last name here for consistency given you've been using LaDuran throughout the article.

Freda, who was born in Sweden, had been married to Jules for nine years.[39] They had also been separated twice during that timespan - Same here, for both Freda (Swanson) and Jules (LaDuron)

At the time of Freda's disappearance, Jules was in the hospital - Ditto

In September 1945, LaDuron filed for divorce from Freda. - Ditto

On November 6, 1950, LaDuron fatally shot Seibert and Ralph Carter at LaDuron's home office during a fight. - "... at his home office...".

LaDuron asserted self defense and said that the two brothers were trying to blackmail him, stating "It's a blackmail stunt. It's been going on since my wife disappeared." - Do any of the sources go into detail on what the blackmail allegedly consistent of? I'm guessing LaDuron alleged the two brothers were going to tell the police about him? If that is mentioned anywhere, any context would be helpful for readers.

On November 10, 1950, two hunters found a human skull in a gravel pit eight miles southeast of Muncie. - Please use the Template:Convert to add kilometers too.

Police thought it might be the remains of Freda LaDuron - Please use "Swanson" instead. Although I guess the ref doesn't actually say Swanson so you may have to add another source that supports the full name.

attacked him with a stirrup and a wrench after Jacq had been knocked out. - The previous mention of the items used was only the wrench. Not sure how you want to consolidate but I would say include both in the earlier mentioned with a ref.

(he was over 6' tall and over 200 pounds). - use the convert template for here too.

He filed an appeal and, in July 1974, his prison term was suspended due to his age and health. - Source says he was 81 so I think it would be helpful for readers to know how old he was at that time.

He was cremated and buried at Beech Grove Cemetery in Muncie - link Beech Grove Cemetery (Muncie, Indiana)

Legacy

At one point during the mid 20th century, - Per the source, it happened sometime between the 1940s and 1960s so I would advise that wording instead of "mid 20th century". More of a suggestion but I think the 20th century mention is a bit odd and not as exact as the other.

The over 200-pound LaDuron and Maupin exchanged punches - Convert template here as well.

  • I added (91 kg) manually. Not sure how to add the convert template when there's a hyphen in the way. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:00, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Addressed everything thus far, I believe. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 17:13, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
@WikiOriginal-9: Great, thank you! I've placed the review on hold. I also added my final part of the review (references, infobox and lead section). I'll do a final pass once that is done. Nice job working on this. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 17:45, 20 July 2026 (UTC)

References, infobox and lead

I did multiple spot checks and everything checks out. One thing I'd like to recommend is that you add the url-access=limited format and the via=Newspapers.com for those references that need it. I noticed that readers only have access to five articles every week for most of the references in the article so the access to those URLs is limited. I did an example here that you may reference.

I also have a question for the ref Jules F. LaDuron (Grave). Beech Grove Cemetery. I checked at WP:RSN to see if we can include grave tomb manuscripts but found nothing. Do you know if we are allowed to cite something like this? If there's a Commons image that would be great. I'm just not too sure if this should count as a reliable source.

College Indiana (1913–1915) - It mentions 1915 here but no where else in the article. Per MOS:INFOBOXCITE this should be cited in the body paragraphs so please fix this.

This attracted nationwide attention and reignited suspicion towards LaDuron in the disappearance of his second wife. - I wasn't able to find that the case brought "national attention" in the body paragraphs. If can add that there that would be great since as of right now it is uncited per MOS:LEADCITE.

He was found not guilty of both manslaughter charges after asserting that the brothers had tried to blackmail him. - I think it would be fair to mention that LaDuron also claimed the brothers had attempted to kill him, as he made that assertion during both police questioning and the trial. Alternatively, we can omit the last clause altogether. As currently written, it may read as though he was acquitted because he claimed they had tried to blackmail him, which I know is not what you're intending to convey. If the sources explain the basis for the acquittal (for example, that the judge or jury found the evidence insufficient) we could include that instead.

Addressed everything I believe. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 18:37, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
