The source for "The European Union holds the view that the plebiscite is not in Kashmiris' interest" under >Efforts to end the dispute >Contemporary views on UN resolutions is simply fake. It doesn't exist, it redirects you to a bitcoin page. It is reference 432. Check it out. Also the claim that kashmiris dont want plebiscite is BS, here is a Reuters poll saying otherwise :https://www.reuters.com/article/us-kashmir-poll-idUSDEL29179620070813 include this as the source for the true statement. 99.230.152.36 (talk) 08:38, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

I've fixed the EU link; will leave the second part to someone else -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 11:59, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Not done: article is correct as written. Opinion on independence depends on the region. The article says According to an opinion poll conducted by Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in 2007, 87% of people in mainly Muslim Srinagar want independence, whereas 95% of the people in the mainly Hindu Jammu city think the state should be part of India.[405] The Kashmir Valley is the only region of the former princely state where the majority of the population is unhappy with its current status. The Hindus of Jammu and Buddhists of Ladakh are content under Indian administration. Muslims of Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas are content under Pakistani administration. Kashmir Valley's Muslims want to change their national status to independence.[406] Ref. 405 is the Reuters citation, and the text of the article is consistent with it. Need additions about the most important factor

Incomplete information can be sentimentally harmful. You need to properly address about what was done to Kashmiri Pandits too. It was a major case of law which was barely handled by the then government."Scholars" and existent people can tell you about that too if there's no research available at hand. There should be no evidence of right or left wing when and if you're writing about such a topic on Wikipedia. You need to cover all evident cases of Kashmir conflict not just what seems right and fair to one's eye. 5.24.167.94 (talk) 00:52, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Partly done: I added information on the new ratings, but did not remove the old ones - it seems helpful to show the change over a relatively short period of time. Thanks for pointing this out. Jamedeus (talk) 09:27, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
All right, thanks 4lways4ccelerate (talk) 15:55, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

Title Change from Kashmir Conflict To Jammu and Kashmir Conflict

I believe the Title should be “Jammu and Kashmir Conflict” instead of just “Kashmir Conflict” as it is more precise the article’s heading simply being “Kashmir Conflict” fails to represent the full political and historical reality of the dispute the Jammu region is also an integral part of the conflict as the Jammu region has seen multiple high casualty terror attacks like 2024 Reasi Pilgrim Bus Attack ,2023 Dhangri Village Massacre ,2016 Nagrota Army Camp Attack , 2006 Doda Massacre , 2013 Kathua Twin Attacks and 2004 Jammu Tawi Railway Station attack the region experienced massive upheaval and destruction during the 1947–1948, 1965, and 1971 wars, where key areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, Rajouri, and Chhamb-Akhnoor became major battlegrounds, leading to significant displacement, loss of life, and the systematic destruction of villages and public places due to cross-border shelling and military operations. ~2025-40439-61 (talk) 16:01, 13 December 2025 (UTC)

The article isn't only about parts of "Kashmir" that are administered by India.

Parts of Kashmir under the control of India. There are "Jammu and Kashmir" and "Ladakh".
Parts of Kashmir under the control of Pakistan. There are "Azad Kashmir" and "Gilgit-Baltistan".
Parts of Kashmir under the control of China. There are "Aksai Chin" and "Trans-Karakoram Tract".

The situation of the region is complex. These words help us to distinguish the parts. You can use one of these terms without support any parties to "Kashmir conflict". Anatole-berthe (talk) 23:15, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
No, per WP:COMMONNAME. See . -- Kautilya3 (talk) 09:30, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

How do I add more points for India's side then?

There are many points left out for the case of why Kashmir belongs to India. These are not arguments I made up, these are legit arguments, that I have tested many times, and both sides have agreed taht they are good arguments. But becuase im not in pwoer of this page, im not allowed to bring them up, so how does someone add stuff to this, or another wikipedia article, when some other people decide what coems and goes, and why are some people on wikipedia not being fair by allowing all the points for both sides? ~2025-33210-55 (talk) 18:51, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

This is not a battlefield or game where you make points for your particular viewpoint. We only go by what reliable sources say, not your "tested" arguments. EvergreenFir (talk) 18:55, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
Ignore the response from EvergreenFir that effectively throws the baby out along with the bathwater. You need to mention what points are left out in this contentious topic, not just say there are points and leave it at that because you cannot edit this page. Also remember you need to have made at least 500 valid edits on Wikipedia before you can edit this page. Suhhag (talk) 08:37, 30 July 2026 (UTC)

Background See also: Jammu and Kashmir (princely state) ADD - History of kashmir before afghan invasion in 1752 (this is necessary to provide context to the presence of kashmiri hindus and the aftermath of their exodus. After a period of cultural flowering under Hindu dynasties—most notably the Karkota and Lohara dynasties Hindu rule in Kashmir ended in 1339 with the rise of the Shah Mir dynasty. Rule of the native Chak dynasty followed, and lasted until 1586, when the region was conquered by the Mughal Empire under Akbar. Kashmir was annexed by the Afghan Durrani Empire in 1752.

The Afghan Durrani Empire ruled Kashmir Valley from 1752until its 1819 conquest by the Sikh Empire under Ranjit Singh. The Raja of Jammu Gulab Singh, who was a vassal of the Sikh Empire and an influential noble in the Sikh court, sent expeditions to various border kingdoms and ended up encircling Kashmir by 1840. Following the First Anglo-Sikh War (1845–1846), Kashmir was ceded under the Treaty of Lahore to the East India Company, which transferred it to Gulab Singh through the Treaty of Amritsar, in return for the payment of indemnity owed by the Sikh empire. Gulab Singh took the title of the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir.

From 1846 till the 1947 partition of India, Kashmir was ruled by maharajas of Gulab Singh's Dogra dynasty, as a princely state under British Paramountcy. The British Raj managed the defence, external affairs, and communications for the princely state and stationed a British Resident in Srinagar to oversee the internal administration. According to the 1941 census, the state's population was 77 percent Muslim, 20 percent Hindu and 3 percent others (Sikhs and Buddhists).[64] Despite its Muslim majority, the princely rule was overwhelmingly a Hindu-dominated state.[65] The Muslim majority suffered under the high taxes of the administration and had few opportunities for growth and advancement.[66] ~2026-46608-94 (talk) 10:12, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
