Category:City-states?
The text here has three sources calling Malta a city-state. Should we consider adding it to the relevant Category?

- No, Malta does not meet the definition as it has not just one city (and Valletta is a small city in terms of population). It also has a decently sized rural/agricultural country unlike Singapore. Traumnovelle (talk) 07:13, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
Prehistory
"To arrive on Malta, these hunter-gatherers had to cross around 100 km of open water, documenting the longest yet-known sea crossing by hunter-gatherers in the Mediterranean."
The Latnija Cave article states that there was evidence of inhabitation 8,500 years ago. At that time, Malta and Sicily were likely still connected by a land bridge (or relatively short stretches of water).
Today, sea levels are ~20m higher (sea level + isostatic rebound) than 6,500 years ago. While there would still be a long stretch of open water, it's likely that it would have been less than the 100km quoted in the article. KidTempo (talk) 14:46, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
Politics NPOV and reliable sources
The politics section currently makes a fairly partisan statement that "Corruption, money laundering, and government maladministration in Malta have significantly increased since the Labour Party returned to power." The citation for this links to an oped without much concrete data to back that up.
I am not familiar with the politics of Malta, but that sticks out to me, and probably deserves a look. 103.81.125.65 (talk) 04:21, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
The cross on the flag is NOT white
I do not know how this happened and why this lunacy has gone on for more than 4 YEARS, but it has to end. The flag is not white, its simple not. The CIA (https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/malta/flag/) and Britannica (https://www.britannica.com/topic/flag-of-Malta) has Malta's cross as grey. In meetings with the EU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU1PY-hT1nw - Go to minute 0.44) and Italy (https://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/national/123473/maltaitaly_bilateral_meeting_explores_cooperation_in_energy_and_migration_challenges - scroll to the second image), it can be clearly seen that the cross on the flag is GREY. 136.183.51.26 (talk) 02:16, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- What are you trying to say exactly? The title of your section heading contradicts the evidence you have provided. Traumnovelle (talk) 08:54, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- The title should be 'not white', my bad. 136.183.242.211 (talk) 15:24, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- It may be good to move the discussion to the file of the flag itself:
- It seems this has been argued about before but never reach any real consensus or conclusion. Traumnovelle (talk) 20:07, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- Looking back on the flag's file history, it was changed without discussion by ONE user. Said user started a 'discussion', responding to only one other user before ignoring everyone else. One person attempted to revert the flag back to the grey cross but the OG user has managed to keep the cross white for the last 2 years. 136.183.51.26 (talk) 18:40, 20 September 2025 (UTC)

- We can discuss whether an alternate file should be used here if there are issues with the Commons file. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:22, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- The source for the change to white is https://www.gov.mt/en/About%20Malta/Documents/Maltese%20Islands/National%20Flag%20Graphical%20Specifications.pdf That is the official government of Malta. There are no specifications for the color of the cross, but it doesn't mention that it has to be gray. The colors used in the images always display a white cross, excepting § 3 Geometric Description, which is grayish, but it includes a note: "this diagram is provided for reference only. It is not intended for reproduction." The sources provided by the IP does not trump the ruling of the government of Malta. (CC) Tbhotch™ 03:58, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Perhaps someone else can weigh in
I've reverted three times, trying to fend off what seems to be vandalism. Perhaps another editor can weigh in on whether User: AJEBORG's edits, to the effect that "Arabia had no involvement in naming Malta", should be included. Mgnbar (talk) 02:50, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- You're right, this needs to stop. Despite the edit log, i can't tell whose edit AJEBORG initially reverted. (1) I do see Mgnbar reverting that, then (2) AJEBORG reverting for a 1st (maybe 2nd time), then Mgnbar reverting for a second time, then AJEBORG reverting for a 2nd maybe 3rd time, then Mgnbar reverting for a 3rd time. Seems like bot'h of you have done 3 reverts.U'all need to stop;.--FeralOink (talk) 03:54, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- The edit isn't vandalism, not commenting on the merits of the edit but vandalism is a very specific term for edits that are intentionally meant to worsen the encyclopaedia. Traumnovelle (talk) 05:46, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
