"Euphemism"

In Rain#Intensity, the article says

Euphemisms for a heavy or violent rain include gully washer, trash-mover and toad-strangler.

Those are not really euphemisms;there's nothing offensive about a term like "heavy rain". But what should we call them - or should we just delete them? (talk) 10:09, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

Article review

It has been a while since this was reviewed, so I took a look and noticed the following:

  • There are lots of uncited statements, including entire sections.
  • There's an "expansion needed" banner on top of the "Pollution and composition" section.

Should this article go to WP:GAR? Z1720 (talk) 23:41, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

Result: Kept. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 15:14, 24 July 2025 (UTC)

Unreferenced sections, including entire paragraphs and sections. There's an orange "update needed" banner at the top of "Pollution and composition" from October 2022. Z1720 (talk) 15:53, 4 June 2025 (UTC)

I will research the unreferenced areas. They seem to be concentrated under "global climatology" and "Virga". The "pollution and composition" issue is that it only addresses PFAS as a pollutant and nothing else. I'm also searching for this. -- Reconrabbit 18:31, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
I've done some work. I'm unsure how much weight should be placed on PFAS in the Pollution section. Later on I can better address the climate issues since these generalizations could be reworded. -- Reconrabbit 20:20, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
hi Reconrabbit; do you still intend to work on this article? No worries if not. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 16:49, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
I do want to continue working on this, thank you for the reminder. I'm now finding out what a poor state Rainforest is in. I thought it could help to improve the respective section here but it's not much use, the sources are very weak. -- Reconrabbit 20:10, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
@AirshipJungleman29, @Z1720: I am more comfortable with the current state of this article now. Did I miss anything? Ideally I would like an editor with a background in weather to look at it but none have appeared so far and the only person I am familiar with in the field is on wikibreak right now. -- Reconrabbit 17:43, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
@Reconrabbit: Keep. My concerns have been resolved. I did add a citation needed template for "while tropical plants may need up to hundreds of inches of rain per year to survive." but this is minor and can be easily fixed. Editor time is at a premium on Wikipedia, especially for specific experts. If you want, and if the consensus is "keep", we can close this GAR and an expert can look at it when and if they want. If an expert (or another editor) notices anything concerning that might cause the article to not meet the GA criteria, a discussion can take place on the article's talk page or a new GAR can be opened, outlining that concern. Z1720 (talk) 18:30, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
I removed the statement on tropical plants. It may be true, but there's no obvious way to verify this, and it seems more useful to me to include a statement about an agriculturally relevant plant in the section titled "agriculture". The "hundreds of inches" remark only appears in searches on sites and books that mirror Wikipedia. -- Reconrabbit 18:45, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
