I think that there is a strong case for departing from the Manual of Style, and referring to the victims by their first names (not surnames) in places where the full name is not given. ~2026-14674-95 (talk) 23:22, 7 March 2026 (UTC)

What is your justification for departing from the established MoS? I'm not saying that there ISN'T an argument, but you haven't actually provided one here. Dferstat (talk) 04:36, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

But they're adults now. ~2026-14781-83 (talk) 12:55, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

At the risk of being disrespectful, long-dead children are not adults. ~2026-12774-79 (talk) 20:24, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

Potential article for “Death of Ian Huntley”?

Hello hello!

Huntley's death has been circulating the news recently. I feel so far the coverage is decently significant—at least significant enough for this article to be in our top visited—but given its recency I wanted to see what my fellow editors would think of a separate article for his death. Of course, we don't have many details as of now, which is my primary concern—there's not much to write about—but I imagine that news sources will start covering that as prosecution begins for the attacker (not intended to be in conflict with WP:CRYSTAL, of course). I still think a separate article could be written. Really, my question isn't about whether to create an article now, just if it should be done at all'.

Apologies if this doesn't make sense, I only caught wind of this recently and am a bit tired ( I will be logging off after leaving this message and answer any queries tomorrow).

As always, much love, rock on! ⚠︎ ArkadenBoden ⚠︎ (talk) 00:55, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

As per my comment on the earlier discussion regarding a proposal to create a separate biography for Huntley, I'd like a clear explanation as to how splitting content over multiple articles would benefit the reader. AndyTheGrump (talk) 01:03, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Ian Huntley got attacked in prison... and that's about it. I don't think it'd be an informative article really. Stadt67 (talk) 18:49, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

Death of Michael Jackson: Yes. Death of Ian Huntley: No. He got attacked by another inmate, he died, that's it really.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:59, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

We can reasonably expect some sort of investigation, and possible prosecution of the inmate, but for now there is no reason to think that this would not fit adequately into THIS article. Pincrete (talk) 11:24, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Sorry for the late response everybody... I've been busy. I honestly don't think there's much to write now, but perhaps in the future, per Pincrete. Sorry for any bother.
Much love, rock on!

If there was sufficient need to split for his death, then frankly it would likely mean he himself had achieved notability beyond Soham and require a separate article. However until such time - his death should be treated here, and the murder / trial should be mentioned here, but should likely be on the killers relevant pages. Huntley died in March 2026, after sustaining severe head injuries inflicted in an ALLEGED attack by another inmate at HMP Frankland. (a man has been charged and therefore it’s an allegation, not a fact) JournoJimBrighton (talk) 13:40, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Can you state a source to verify? EvenLeoEme (talk) 14:47, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

I think that all JournoJimBrighton is asking is that we add 'alleged' to the existing text. Which is almost certainly correct, since as of now we have reasonable enough sources for the attack taking place, but the statement that it was carried out by an inmate is an allegation. It could possibly be worded as "Huntley died in March 2026, after sustaining severe head injuries inflicted in an attack alleged to have been carried out by by another inmate at HMP Frankland." "It was previously reported that Huntley wore a red Manchester United shirt around prison, which caused friction with other inmates."

So under Death at the moment this sentence has been added. We should be clear that the "reported" in question was an article in The Sun. As even The Sun reported: replica kits are not allowed in prison. And describe it as a "plain red sports top with No10 on the back" and state "But staff are powerless to stop him as it’s not an actual football shirt and he hasn’t broken any rules. However it is just wrong." Should be clear, this incident was reportedly in May '25 to causation / correlation not confirmed anywhere. The attack that killed him is just one in a series of prior attacks against him (no shirt previously required for him to be a hated person).

So, in conclusion: The Telegraph is a reliable source but there is a clear dependency there of reporting from The Sun, which makes any correlative assertions by ourselves that they are related to each other pretty sketchy (feels WP:SYNTH). I'm not averse to reporting on the shirt, but it should be within context of prior attacks in the "Huntley" section. Maybe even a "attacks in prison" subsection. It may indeed be better to re-evaluate the "Aftermath" section entirely. Koncorde (talk) 13:04, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
