Mistake?

"The Eads Bridge became a symbolic image of the city of St. Louis, from the time of its erection until 1965 when the Gateway Arch Bridge was constructed." It's not supposed to say Gateway Arch Bridge, right? Fdnkz (talk) 01:48, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

St. Louis, MO Founding Date.

13 February 2026 - The day listed for the Founding of St. Louis on this Wikipedia page of February 14th is incorrect according to the Missouri Secretary of State website (https://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/history/timeline/1 ). The day should be listed as February 15th of 1764. Per the Missouri Secretary of State website: "1764 St. Louis was founded by Pierre Laclede Liguest along with his stepson Auguste Choteau and other fur traders on February 15, 1764." ~2026-98761-5 (talk) 00:07, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

St. Louis, MO City Incorporation Year. Change from 1809 to 1823. ~2026-98761-5 (talk) 00:30, 14 February 2026 (UTC) Per the City of St. Louis, Missouri Government website: https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/visit-play/stlouis-history.cfm . "St. Louis incorporated as a city in 1823."

Partly done: I've instead changed the incorporation date in the infobox to 1822, which matches the date given in the body of the article with a citation to an academic source. Day Creature (talk) 03:15, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

In the second paragraph a blanket statement is made in the first sentence without any sources or citation: "The land that became St. Louis had been occupied by Native American cultures for thousands of years before European settlement." Is this true? Were there any Native Americans actually there? Or was the area around St. Louis only surrounded by nomadic tribes? Was the land there actually occupied or just empty? Osage were semi-nomadic and did have some settlements, but if there was a settlement in the place that St. Louis turned into I feel like that would have been mentioned. So if not, then this sentence claiming there have been cultures there for thousands of years doesn't have any evidence behind it. And if it does, no one cited anything proving that, so I suggest it be removed or edited for accuracy. ~2026-14386-91 (talk) 04:05, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

The lead is a summary of the article. Sources aren't required there for things found in the body. If you scroll to the history section you'll find info about that. glman (talk) 14:25, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Halfway down, it states absolutely that Detroit and several other cities have a higher homicide rate than St. Louis. This is demonstrably untrue, and I believe St. Louis had the highest homicide rate in the country based on 2024 data (2025 data not yet available) ~2026-13107-73 (talk) 14:49, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
