Brand's last word on Blood for Trucks
New York Times, May 21, 1964. [shortly before Brand's death]
Allied Rift Called Aim of '44 Nazi Ransom Plan
FRANKFURT, Germany, May 20 - Joel Brand, whom the Nazis used as an envoy in their unsuccessful plan to trade the lives of a million Jews for 10,000 trucks, said today that the plan was actually aimed at splitting the Soviet-Western Alliance. Mr. Brand, a former Budapest resident and now an Israeli citizen, gave a detailed account of the origin and failure of the plan at the trial here of Hermann Krumey and Otto Hunsche, two of Adolf Eichmann's closest collaborators in the extermination of Hungarian Jews, in 1944. He testified "that though the deal was suggested by Eichmann" it must have originated in the mind of Himmler as one of his desperate attempts at driving a wedge between the Allies." ... "I made a terrible mistake in passing this on to the British," Mr. Brand said. "It is now clear to me that Himmler sought to sow suspicion among the Allies as a preparation for his much desired Nazi-Western coalition against Moscow," he said.
Why Auschwitz was not bombed
The connection is obvious. The same question is raised "Why was Brandt been locked away while Jews were dying"... it's the same connection of allies not helping the Jews in their catastrophe. Amoruso 12:51, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Auschwitz was bombed, by US Fifteenth Air Force out of Italy, but they bombed Auschwitz I Monowitz, where the IG Farben chemical plant was. A number of 'overthrows' landed on Auschwitz II Birkenau a couple of miles further on, where the death camp was. But it was not practical to carry out a full-scale raid on Birkenau because (a) the key target, the gas-chamber facility, was so small, barely a speck as seen from 25,000 feet at 200mph, that there was little chance of a direct hit, and nothing else would do, and (b) the SS had air-raid shelters and the prisoners did not, so the USAAF would be mainly just killing prisoners and doing the SS's dirty work for them, and Ben-Gurion told the Allies he did not favour this. In summer 1944, the authorities in Washington considered bombing certain rail bridges and tunnels used by the trains carrying Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz, but it was decided that this was beyond the capabilities of Fifteenth Air Force, the only Allied bomber force within range, which was only trained and equipped for high-altitude pattern-bombing, so it didn't happen. Jerusalem Hall of Heroism
Where exactly is this place? Amoruso 17:13, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Supposedly it was on the site of the former Jerusalem Central Prison, but not much seems to have been heard of it since its opening in 1965.

Position on Gold Standard (section Political Career)
This uncited paragraph reads confusingly given that the government in which Churchill and Moyne served as ministers fell in 1929 and they were both out of ministerial office in 1930 and 1931:
In 1930, Moyne and Churchill agreed that the government policies of dropping the Pound sterling off the gold standard and de-rating to cope with the Great Depression were inadequate, along with proposals for dominion status for India. Together, they put the Pound sterling back on the gold standard; a point of pride, but not a policy that lasted for long. When the 1931 coalition government was formed, their criticisms meant that as former ministers they were now out in the political cold.
Neither were in the position to enact restoring the Pound's link to the gold standard if the sentences are taken to all refer to post-1929 when both were reduced to being backbench MPs, although they could have voted for it if this had been put to a Commons vote. These sentences need checking for historical accuracy and need a source to back them.Cloptonson (talk) 18:36, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
