Hi @Saoirse Don, thanks for checking in! To start, the "multiple issues" (and the individual maintenance templates within) is entirely subjective. In some sense, if you feel you've resolved the issues, then yes, you can remove the tags at any point. There's no review process, etc. However, while you are a newer editor and still getting your feet under you, I appreciate you looking for a second opinion just to confirm your understanding of proper writing, style, etc. For Singing Sandra, you added some references: perfect. While you didn't make any changes to the prose, the article has been significantly cleaned up since those templates were added in 2023, so I think the removal of those tags is fine as well. The only other fix I would have made is in the legacy section, where the second sentence is a sentence fragment without a main clause. The easiest thing to do is just merge the two sentences. One more thing: when you add references, add them after the punctuation. Hi @Carlos Hernández Cabrera, I know nothing about the topic, so I cannot speak to the substance of the dispute. However, I see that three different editors are reverting you. You aren't going to get anywhere by forcing your edit through, and because Wikipedia operates on a "consensus" system, you cannot demand your change be made if multiple editors disagree with you and no one agrees with you. Finally, admins do not have any special power over content. You would need to convince the other editors on the talk page that your edits are correct, but that doesn't appear to be happening. Hi @Obliquepixel, welcome to Wikipedia! This may seem like an simple answer, but start with a topic that you find interesting, or know something about. It will be much easier for you to find sources when you're already familiar with the subject matter, and the kinds of sources writing about that topic. Beyond that, Wikipedia uses maintenance flags and templates that automatically add articles with that issue to a category, and you can basically just jump in.

So lets say you are looking for articles that, e.g., both have references with bare URLs (at risk for link rot) and are related to European history? Here's how I would find articles like that, and you can tell me if this is helpful or not. I often start at the Wikipedia:Task Center, which lists a series of tasks and then links to random articles that have issues in that task area. So the first task on that page, "Fact-Checking", has a link on the right side allowing you to "Go to a random page in Category:All articles lacking sources". You could start there, or you could also click on the maintenance category, Category:All articles with bare URLs for citations. This takes you to a hidden WP category containing every article that is currently tagged with the {{Cleanup bare URLs}} or {{Bare URL inline}} templates. However, at the top of that category page there is also a yellow box that directs you to articles lacking sources in a certain topic area. If you click "Europe" it takes you to this search result, which you could also recreate by entering articletopic:europe incategory:"All articles with bare URLs for citations" into the Wikipedia search bar. This also suggests that you can do the same for other "articletopic" fields, although I don't know where that list is off the top of my head. Hello Aylo! I made an account mainly to make an article about a producer I've recently found called Jérémie Périn, but after researching a bit further I'm no longer sure if he's notable enough. While he's linked in wikipedia articles of works he's directed/worked with (ex. Mars Express 2023), he only has three articles that I can find otherwise (sources being: IMDb, AnimationIsFilm, IFFR) and a few interwiews on youtube. Is this notable enough to make an article about? Given where he works, I feel like it’s possible that notability could be achieved through non-English sources. By virtue of directing an award winning film he’s close to meeting WP:DIRECTOR. You absolutely can. The policy for translating other articles into English is here: WP:Translation. One critical step is here: Help:Translation#Licensing. The first thing, yes! Here's the line to add: Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Jérémie Périn]]; see its history for attribution. Include that in the edit summary box when you make the article. Not directly in the article. Later there's another note you can add to the talk page, but that's a later issue. @Rootmen213 so the simplest thing to do is put your reference information inside "ref" tags, like this: <ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref> Place that code at the end of the sentence you want to attach the citation to, and the reference will show exactly what you've typed in. At a very basic level, that's all your need. Now, the second step is that we have templates for citations, like {{cite web}}, which do all the fancy formatting for you. If you copy the template, and fill in the various parameters, you'll get a full citation automatically. So the full (blank) code would be this: <ref>{{cite web |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |website= |location= |publisher= |access-date=}}</ref> Just fill that in with the information you have (or use {{cite book}} or {{cite magazine}} if appropriate) and you're good to go. In other words, unfortunately you can't just write down stories you've heard from people who live there--it needs to be a history covered in books or newspapers. Second, I repeat that articles about videos games are not places to include every detail, or every bit of in-world color about the universe. For the purpose of this conversation, that means that it doesn't really matter what runescape.com says or does. One of the main issues with the RS article--and the reason it repeatedly failed becoming a Good Article--is because so much of the article relies on primary sources like the Knowledge Base instead of news sources like those listed on WP:VG/S. The first three links you provided here are not independent, reliable sources, so it is irrelevant how they do or do not capitalize the names of the skills. The guiding rule here is MOS:VGSTYLE, with a citation to MOS:CAPS in footnote G: "only words and phrases that are consistently capitalized in a substantial majority of independent, reliable sources are capitalized in Wikipedia." I've been looking around, and the trend in recent years has been to capitalize skills, so I'm totally fine with that--your fourth link is indeed helpful in that regard. So thank you--it's not a "compromise", it's following the rules of this site.

Finally, I suggest you chill out with the "people like you" and "I'm not walking away" comments. I've been working on this page since long before you got here, and the stable version of the page has, for years, not capitalized the names of skills: at the time the sources didn't either. I'm not just reverting your edits for the sake of it, I'm actively trying to improve the article. I'm happy to work with you--you're clearly passionate about the page--but if you want to be a productive editor I suggest you (a) learn the rules of the site and (b) be open to the idea that others around you are not just "up in everybody's business" when they disagree with you. 3. I am open to the idea that you're not just up in my business for no good reason. Sometimes, I wish it were easier to find the "independent, reliable sources" you demand when there are so few. 1. Understood. Just so you know, on editor talk pages, the editor whose page you're on gets a new notification for every single edit you make, which can be annoying. And then in general, on talk pages with more action, those edits will cause other editors to have wp:edit conflicts as you and they save the page at the same time.

2. Sure, I gotcha. The article can certainly do with a facelift. As the game's popularity slowed, the edits to the page did as well (check out this graph if you want to see it visually). It used to be that @1ForTheMoney and I basically operated as the reviewers for all of the content that IPs and new users would add, but there's clearly less need for that. That partially explains why my instinct is to preserve the status quo whenever it looks like an edit tries to increase the in-world accuracy of the page (i.e., stuff that should be in the RS wiki). So I apologize for that--I should have done more work to double check your edits re:sourcing capitalization.

3. I actually think there's a lot more than I've realized! A list of sources that are good for video games is here: WP:VG/S. And when I checked out some of these sites, there were a bunch of articles that we haven't added into the article. If you want to jump in on a project, we really should try to replace all of the Knowledge Base links with proper sources, and I actually think that's much easier now than it was in ~2010. Hi @Andrew5130, thanks for the question. I'm looking at edits like this and this. Updating the links is great, and thank you for doing that. But what you need to do is put the reference in the text and replace the other reference. Otherwise you're adding a citation at the end of the page where no one will see it. Does that make sense? Usually you don't add the reference to the "Reference" section--that section just holds a template that automatically shows the citations that are placed in the body of the article. Hi @Andrew5130, sure! So the content between the <ref> tags is the reference right? And a completed reference looks something like this: <ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref>

What you need to do is paste that reference at the end of the sentence that the citation is for. In the edit where you added the Soutor book, the book was being used as a citation at the end of the sentence "Atopic diathesis is a predisposition to develop one or more of hay fever, allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, or atopic dermatitis." Instead of adding the reference into the References section at the end of the page, add the reference to the end of the section or sentence that it is a citation for. Hello Alyo, After getting a bit familiar with editing articles I wrote my first article on the Scottish radiologist, author and archaeologist Dr John Henderson Reid. Unfortunately, it was declined. The reason given at the top of the page says that the "article is not adequately supported by reliable sources", however the Comment that the reviewer who declined my article left only mentions that all inline links should be removed, and turned into references if appropriate, Wikilinks, or external links in a section so named. It doesn't mention lack of reliable sources. I have made the changes requested: taking out all the inline links and making them into references or links in the External Links section. Hi! I was browsing some pages for practicing copyedits, and have a question about formatting. I edit on mobile, and though I hope to someday understand wikitext, I'm stuck on visual editor. As far as I can see, I can only change one section (is there a more formal name for that?) per edit. Ex, I can only alter "History", and not "Awards" in a single edit. Hi @Fractal-Dreamz, great question! Yes, those are sections, and the general rule is that if you click the edit button on a section, that's the only section you can edit. However, there's also a button to edit the entire page, usually located at the top of the page. I'm not exactly sure how the visual editor looks on mobile, but is there an edit button at the top? Something that will make the entire page editable at once? I'm able to do this on desktop, so hopefully it works for mobile as well.

Second, I wouldn't worry at all about jacking up your edit count. If you are making helpful edits, no one is going to notice your edit count at all, I promise. (Now, if you're like...adding and removing a single space from an article over and over to get the edit count up that might be a problem. But that's pretty clearly not what you're doing so far.) Alyo - I just realized that you have offered to mentor me. A little background. I am one of the leading and senior Professional Health Care Chaplains in the country. I have been involved in the field the last 30 years. I have been involved in multiple of the organizations, help numerous positions, published extensively.

One of the reasons I became an editor is that there is nothing really extensive about health care chaplaincy. We have numerous organizations. Professional chaplains work in almost every hospital and long term care facility in the country. We have a long and professional process for learning chaplaincy/pastoral care skills and then a certification process to demonstrate a high professional level of work.

There are a number of additional topics that need to be created in the same field such as: Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) - what is it, why is offered and to whom, who must take it, what is the process, etc. As I draft them, knowing much more now that when I first started, would you be willing to look over the articles?

Finally, many of the foundational leaders in the field are not yet part of WikiPedia. What is the process for me to start to add them?

Hi @StephRab18, apologies for the delay in response. This may be a bit of a long response, but you've asked a question with a lot of layers, so bear with me.

In order for topics to be considered "notable" enough for Wikipedia, they generally must be covered by multiple independent, reliable sources that discuss the topic in significant detail. We call this the general notability guideline. For an article called United States and Canada professional chaplaincy organizations, this means that you want coverage of this type of organization, or the field as a whole--that's the scope of the article title. Coverage of individual organizations, by comparison, will not help you achieve this notability threshold. They may be relevant to the topic as examples, but they will not necessarily convince a reviewer that the article about the field of chaplaincy orgs as a whole should be accepted.

So my first question is about the scope of the article. With the background of what I've just said, what is the proper scope of this article? Is there enough sourcing about specifically about the field chaplaincy organizations in North America to support this article? Remember, not just sources about individual organizations, but about this type of organization? What is so different about chaplaincy organizations in NA such that they need their own article, instead of maybe a short added section in Chaplain or a related article?

I did a quick skim of the sources that I could access, and these three pieces seemed to come the closest to discussing the topic "chaplaincy organizations in NA" in depth. The rest generally appeared to cover either chaplaincy certifications for individuals--something that could easily fit in the chaplaincy page--or else individual organizations--which should be judged on their own merit. And with just those three sources, the core of the article would be pretty short. I did not come away from that convinced that "chaplaincy organizations in NA" was a topic that would meet our guidelines based on the sources currently in the article. You might come back and tell me that there are plenty of sources on this topic now that you know what you're looking for, but I just want to tell you what I see so far.

The next issue to discuss is the use of the chaplaincy organizations' websites as sources about themselves. Those websites are not "independent" or "third-party", and so they carry less weight than say, a peer-reviewed journal or news profile would. If the content currently in your draft were in an article, someone would be justified in removing much of it as "overly promotional" because it is essentially repeating what the websites say about themselves. I realize that chaplaincy is a much more morally beneficial movement than say, a teenager's new punk band, but it still must meet the same rules about self-promotion.

Now, all of the above applies in the same way to individuals. I imagine you may have an easier time with this part, as there are probably more biographies and profiles of individuals, instead of categories of organization. I'm happy to look at any other drafts, but I always tell new editors the same thing: if you want to save time, link me to the three strongest articles/sources/citations on a given topic, and I'll tell you whether it's likely to pass the very first, most important step: that notability threshold above. Hi @YarrowFlower, great question, and glad to see you're off and running as an editor! There are a ton of ways to contribute, but I really feel strongly that it should start with your interests. When I first joined WP, I was interested in college football and video games, and so the vast majority of my edits fell into those subject areas while I learned the ropes. A benefit here--apart from just making editing more fun--is that if you're the kind of person who has been reading or following your interests for a long time, you probably have a good sense of what the sourcing looks like for that subject area. My current editing process somewhat matches how you described yours on your talk page. I just use WP a lot, and am constantly coming across articles that have issues. In particular, I always just to spare time to add or improve sources to existing articles. At this point in WP's lifecycle, that appears to me to be one of the most crucial tasks.

Now, if you want to dive into a type of task, then I would start with the WP:Task Center. This has different types of WP work separated by task and difficulty, and you can look at what matches your skills and interests. Some of these maintenance backlogs have tens of thousands of articles, so there's plenty to do! Let me know if you have any questions about any of the tasks on that page. @YarrowFlower Completely understandable. I think you'll find, especially if you stick around, that the two often go hand-in-hand. There are still tons of articles with typos and basic grammar errors of course. But many of the articles that need improvements to their writing need those improvements in order to better align the text to what the sources say, if that makes sense. However, if you want to start with articles that have been tagged as needing copyediting, you may want to look at the WP:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors, which works on articles in this maintenance category. Hi @LullabyHead, you have a good start with User:LullabyHead/sandbox. I have a few tips.

• First, you want to make sure that the sources back up what you're using them as references for. As a random example, you have a sentence that says His composition, Two Dances, was read by the resident Pittsburgh Symphony... with a footnote to this article, but unless the article is cut off it says nothing about Two Dances.
• Second, you want your content and sources to be about deLise, not other topics. E.g., the parenthetical and references about Eddie Bruce can be completely removed, and if a reader wants to know about Bruce they can click his article. (But note that the actual statement about deLise and Bruce's collaboration has no citation!) Anytime that you're adding more than a few word to explain a connected topic, person, album, etc, that can be removed. So most of the additional info about "2 Steps Away", "J'Ouvert", etc.
• Wikipedia article cannot be used as citations. You can link to them, like you did for Eddie Bruce, but you should change the reference that links to The A's (and others) into wikilinks, just like I've done here.

That would be my start. I think deLise may be notable enough for Wikipedia, but there may need to be 1-2 more high quality sources about him--not a song that he worked on, or a famous person he worked with--added to the draft. Alyo (chat·edits) 19:36, 8 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Cab-wit, great question. It's not a huge deal, especially on articles, but it's always a good idea to use the WP:preview function to see what your edits will look like when you publish the page and catch additional nits before you save. It's also helpful to use edit summaries to explain your edits, so that other editors can get a sense of what you did without actually opening up the edit history. With those two notes, it's really not a big deal to make multiple edits in a row unless you're, like, editing one word at a time in a sentence. Apart from that, if you're editing different sections (like you were here) and find it easier to save your edits each time, that's never an issue. If you know that you'll be working on an article for a long stretch of time and really want to be safe, you can use the {{in use}} or {{Under construction}} templates and remove them when you're done.

Now, where a lot of small edits is a problem is on talk pages, and other places where editors may be responding to you. If you're on an active talk page and save a comment, and then go back and edit your comment three times in quick succession, you may block other editors from saving their own responses--we call that an WP:edit conflict. Definitely use the preview function on talk pages and try to minimize successive edits on highly active talk pages, although hopefully you're not needing to edit those kinds of pages for a long time anyway. Hi @The Yill, sorry for the late reply, I've been on vacation for the last week. I believe your questions were about Scott Marlowe right? Yup, you figured it out! You remove references by removing the <ref> tags and the content in them from the body of the article. Now, I do have some notes about some of the other sources you used, although I haven't gone back through the article's history and other discussions to see what the backstory is with you and IMDB. However, as a general rule, try not to use Youtube as a source. Very often people who upload youtube videos don't own the copyright, so linking to something like this is actually a copyright violation. Plus those videos tend to go down often, etc, so they make for bad sources. You can see WP:YOUTUBE and WP:RSPYT for our policies about that. If a video is uploaded by someone official it's a little better, but often not needed. At minimum though, they do need to actually verify the statements those sources are attached to. So for example, you linked to this episode on Tubi for the statement In 1962, he guest-starred on Stoney Burke in "Point of Honor" as a troubled, would-be bull rider. But I see nothing on that page or in the credits that mentions Marlowe, so even though I'm sure you're right, that source doesn't really help the reader (or other editors). This may be a better question for you to direct to the people who often work on tv show articles, but is there a different kind of source you can use for this? I didn't see Marlowe in the credits, but I certainly could have missed that. Assuming that's true, I would imagine that is ok? I'm actually not exactly sure what the right answer here is, especially if someone isn't in the credits. I know that for television episodes, the episode itself is considered the "source" for the plot, for example. There is no citation in the plot section of this Spongebob episode because it's assumed that someone who wants to verify the WP summary could just go watch the episode: Help_Wanted_(SpongeBob_SquarePants)#Plot. However, I don't know if this same rule applies to an actor making an appearance in an episode. You might want to ask the people over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers?

For the second question, it isn't wrong to use video and audio files as citations--you just need to be aware of where they come from. So Tubi presumably (1) gets the proper license to upload things and (2) confirms information about the episode before uploading. Thus I have more faith that a Tubi/Official Youtube Channel is accurate and reliable. However, if "1950sWesternFan" on Youtube uploads a bunch of episodes, I have much less trust in them to have the rights to the episode, or any editorial oversight. Does that make sense? I would say that in a few places, the tone of the article came off as a little too praising of AEMO, and we try to keep our language a little more neutral here. So e.g., when a sentence like As Australia's independent system and market operator and system planner, AEMO's purpose is to ensure secure, reliable, and affordable energy and enable the energy transition in the long-term interests of consumers can come directly from the organization's PR team, it probably shouldn't be in the article. I also cut most of the acronyms from the article, as they weren't used again later in the article--but feel free to undo that if it would aide the reader/if those organizations are known significantly more by their acronyms than by their full names. My final comment is to double check my rewrite of the lead sentence. As much as possible, we want the first sentence to be as simple as concise a definition as possible. "X is Y". Hi @Llesiowski, sorry for the delayed response! I certainly agree with you that the article is pretty rough at the moment. I don't know enough about the expedition to know what content the article is missing, but the topic is not structured well and seems like it could use more background on why this trip is notable.

And don't feel the need to confirm edits--one of our core principles is that you should be bold! It's always helpful to others to explain what you're doing, either on the talk page or in edit summaries, but if you know you can improve an article, do it!

As for Guara (centerboard), I would think that expansion would be a better option than deletion. Wikipedia does have quite a few "stub" articles, and those aren't inherently wrong. In this case, the sourcing is surprisingly decent/in-depth for the topic. At minimum, before deletion we could add the content about the guara to the relevant parent article, Pre-Columbian rafts and then redirect the former to the latter. Hi @HumbleLion, because of the topic (and probably because of the age of many Roblox players), the page is protected so that brand new users cannot edit the page. Right now the article is set up so that only users who have been around for 30 days and 500 edits can edit the page, but the talk page should be available to you by now. Hi @Milqtoasq, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "written commands". We have "templates" like {{cite web}}, which has parameters you can fill in to have a reference be generated for you. It looks like this: {{cite web |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |website= |location= |publisher= |access-date=}} and you can fill in the information after each "=" and it will properly display as a citation. Additionally, there's a little tool that helps you add references, and you can see instructions for it here: Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor/2. @Milqtoasq Ahh yes, so the "language" that WP uses is called "wikicode" (along with some HTML), and there's a full list of the markup there. Note that most new accounts use the WP:visual editor on articles, where some of those commands may be hidden. You can also use the WP:source editor, where you see the wikicode in all it's glory--you can change between the two when you click edit, or change the default in your preferences. Hi @Bzns33, you're talking about Draft:Noma Mokoni, right? Biographies are generally accepted on Wikipedia when the subject has been covered by multiple reliable sources in some detail. The only reference I see that appears to meet that standard is the piece from The Chronicle. The other sources from from less reliable blogs, or else Mokoni's employers. Hi @Jesmarjosep the simplest thing to do is put your reference information inside "ref" tags, like this: <ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref> Place that code at the end of the sentence you want to attach the citation to, and the reference will show exactly what you've typed in. At a very basic level, that's all your need. Now, the second step is that we have templates for citations, like {{cite web}}, which do all the fancy formatting for you. If you copy the template, and fill in the various parameters, you'll get a full citation automatically. So the full (blank) code would be this: <ref>{{cite web |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |website= |location= |publisher= |access-date=}}</ref> Just fill that in with the information you have (or use {{cite book}} or {{cite magazine}} if appropriate) and you're good to go. Hi @Wittykitty99 sure, the simplest thing to do is put your reference information inside "ref" tags, like this: <ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref> Place that code at the end of the sentence you want to attach the citation to, and the reference will show exactly what you've typed in. At a very basic level, that's all your need. Now, the second step is that we have templates for citations, like {{cite web}}, which do all the fancy formatting for you. If you copy the template, and fill in the various parameters, you'll get a full citation automatically. So the full (blank) citation would be this: <ref>{{cite web |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |website= |location= |publisher= |access-date=}}</ref> If you fill in each parameter with the reference information, you're good to go. However, there's one final step that should make this even easier: there are little tools in the editing interface that will create the reference for you if you enter the information. Hi @Citation-PagePilot, I see Draft:B.A. Pass 3 and Draft:Al Akmar Saify. Both articles have been rejected because, in short, they don't show that the movie and director are "notable" enough for Wikipedia. One of the key rules we have here is that we only allow Wikipedia articles when the topic has already been covered in significant detail by other reliable sources--otherwise every person would try to create an article about their new band, etc. For the director in particular, the sources don't appear to be reliable--these are not national newspapers or other well known sources with a clear editorial policy. The film is much closer to being accepted, in my opinion. If you have more reviews or coverage of the movie in those types of larger publications, that would certainly help, but it's right on the line of notability. My memoir isn’t out yet, but I do have some media exposure—an upcoming follow-up interview with Andrew Callaghan (his first piece about Kensington where I was interviewed `pulled nine million views, "Philly Streets" on YouTube) and a feature in Stern Magazine from Germany gained a lot of traction in Europe (They will also be following up with me in late December or early January. @KensingtonBeach The most I can say is that for now you can create a draft at User:KensingtonBeach/Draft or User:KensingtonBeach/Sandbox, in your own "userspace" and see what happens with reviews, etc, when it comes out. Note that you (obviously) have a conflict of interest, which will trigger additional scrutiny from other editors, but at least in the meantime you can work on your draft there on your own. Feel free to ping me when you have a draft/more sources, but again I stress that you'll need multiple pieces of the same quality as the Stern piece--do you have a link?--to be accepted. Updates for editors

• Starting November 12, users will see a change in the appearance of talk pages on some Wikipedias. Almost all wikis have received this design change; English Wikipedia will get these changes later. You can read more on Diff. Users can opt out of these changes in their user preferences in "Show discussion activity".
• MediaWiki can now display a page indicator automatically while a page is protected. This feature is disabled by default. It can be enabled by community request.
• Using the "Show preview" or "Show changes" buttons in the wikitext editor will now carry over certain URL parameters like 'useskin', 'uselang' and 'section'. This update also fixes an issue where, if the browser crashed while previewing an edit to a single section, saving this edit could overwrite the entire page with just that section’s content.
• Wikivoyage wikis can use colored map markers in the article text. The text of these markers will now be shown in contrasting black or white color, instead of always being white. Local workarounds for the problem can be removed.
• The Activity tab in the Wikipedia Android app is now available for all users. The new tab offers personalized insights into reading, editing, and donation activity, while simplifying navigation and making app use more engaging.
• The Reader Growth team is launching an experiment called "Image browsing" to test how to make it easier for readers to browse and discover images on Wikipedia articles. This experiment, a mobile-only A/B test, will go live on English Wikipedia in the week of November 17 and will run for four weeks, affecting 0.05% of users on English wiki. The test launched on November 3 on Arabic, Chinese, French, Indonesian, and Vietnamese wikis, affecting up to 10% of users on those wikis.
• View all 27 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example the inability to lock accounts on mobile sites has been fixed.

Updates for technical contributors

• Nominations are open on Wikitech for new Toolforge standards committee members. The committee oversees the Toolforge Right to fork policy and Abandoned tool policy among other duties. Nominations will remain open through 2025-11-28.
• The JWT issuer field in OAuth 2 access tokens for SUL wikis has been changed to https://meta.wikimedia.org. Old access tokens will still work.
• The JWT subject field in OAuth 2 access tokens will soon change from <user id> to mw:<identity type>:<user id>, where <identity type> is typically CentralAuth: (for SUL wikis) or local:<wiki id> (for other wikis). This is to avoid conflicts between different user ID types, and to make OAuth 2 access tokens and the sessionJwt cookie more similar. Old access tokens will still work.
• MediaWiki's block messages (blockedtext, blockedtext-partial, autoblockedtext, systemblockedtext, blockedtext-tempuser, autoblockedtext-tempuser) now support additional parameters indicating whether the user is blocked from editing their own user talk page $9 or emailing other users $10.
• A REL1_45 branch for MediaWiki core and each of the extensions and skins in Wikimedia git has been created. This is the first step in the release process for MediaWiki 1.45.0, scheduled for late November 2025. If you are working on a critical bug fix or working on a new feature, you may need to take note of this change.
• The process for generating CirrusSearch dumps has been updated due to slowing performance. If you encounter any issues migrating to the replacement dumps, please contact the Search Platform Team for support.
