Sorry. Perhaps there's an error of some kind. I'm not remembering making any edits to the Iola Leroy page. BlueIris2 (talk) 03:15, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Marina Oswald Porter, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Death of a President. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ  Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thefamouspeople as a reference

Hi BlueIris2 . I noticed that you recently used thefamouspeople.com as a reference in Nipsey Russell. Please note that the general consensus as expressed at WP:RSN is that it does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for such information. I've gone ahead and removed it. If you disagree, let's discuss it. You may want to check WP:RSP and WP:RSN to help determine if a source is reliable. Thanks.--Hipal (talk) 15:48, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

I was looking for why the nickname "Nipsey." Via Google, I found at least three sources that indicated that it came from his mother liking it. Wikipedia rejected the first source (https://www.notablebiographies [dot] com/newsmakers2/2007-Pu-Z/Russell-Nipsey.html) and this was simply the second. Would you prefer this one? https://www.blackpast.org/african-american-history/nipsey-russell-1924-2005/ BlueIris2 (talk) 16:53, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for responding. Blackpast.org references unreliable sources, so that won't work. The encyclopedia.com references from it has some references that might help if you can track them down, perhaps in WP:LIBRARY. --Hipal (talk) 18:52, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
No time for the WP:Library reference. What about the https://www.blackpast.org/african-american-history/nipsey-russell-1924-2005/ ? 67.83.54.219 (talk) 01:37, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
That blackpast.org article doesn't appear reliable, given the references they cite. --Hipal (talk) 16:14, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
OK, how about https://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/04/arts/nipsey-russell-a-comic-with-a-gift-for-verse-dies-at-80.html I don't know if you can view it (I had to sign in), but it says:
"Nipsey Russell was born in Atlanta on Oct. 13, 1924. ("My mother just liked the way the name Nipsey sounded.") He moved to Cincinnati and lived with an aunt during his senior year of high school so he would be eligible to attend the University of Cincinnati tuition-free." BlueIris2 (talk) 16:41, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
Good find. I don't see how that could be a problem to use, but it doesn't give much context. Be careful how you use it. --Hipal (talk) 17:23, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
Can you just replace what I wrote with this source? I don't remember exactly how I did it before. 67.83.54.219 (talk) 17:31, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
I found a second reference that provided some extra context. Good teamwork! --Hipal (talk) 19:12, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
Good! Thanks! BlueIris2 (talk) 19:45, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
P.S. I also liked the part about moving to be with his aunt for the tuition-free college, so I'm going to add that back in, too -- see the NYT obit. BlueIris2 (talk) 19:48, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
P.P.S. I noticed that the citation for that sentence (University of Cincinnati) is simply "Gail"??? Since the NYT article mentions that, I'm going to change that citation. BlueIris2 (talk) 19:54, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Wikipedia as a reference

Hi, I saw that you cited a Wikipedia article as a source in your edit to Jolene (song). Wikipedia cannot be used as a source and should never be cited as the reference. I've replaced that with a ref to a reliable source. See WP:CIRCULAR for more information. Schazjmd (talk) 14:12, 3 October 2022 (UTC)

Thanks! I don't do a lot of editing, so haven't run across that one before. I just happened to notice that that cover was not listed, so wanted to quickly add it. BlueIris2 (talk) 16:18, 3 October 2022 (UTC)

Francis Charteris (rake)

Hello BlueIris2, coming across image and since you contributed to this article, you might be interested reading the whole text. I made some wikilinks in the file, but then again, not being familiar with subject... Cheers Lotje (talk) 13:41, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, Lotje! I'm not that familiar with the subject, either.  :) I came across Francis Charteris via reading a short bio (cited in my edit) about Leslie Charteris. Francis was definitely a rake and a scoundrel! BlueIris2 (talk) 17:47, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Sorry to have troubled you with this. imo the information is quite interesting for future editors who are more familiar with the subject and therefore, adding this to the talkpage of the article might be usuful in the future. Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing

Please be mindful of close-paraphrasing; your recent edits to Slinky were borderline copyright violations, with at least one clause copied verbatim from the source. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:01, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

January 2026

Information icon Hello, I'm Graham87. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that in one of your recent contributions to Modern Jazz Quartet, you cited a link to a source that may not be reliable. Sources considered unreliable should generally not be used to support statements. Information from an unreliable source can be challenged by other editors and removed. Reliable sources are generally those with a reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight. Self-published material, user-generated content, and certain other outlets such as blogs, wikis, personal websites, and websites or publications with a poor reputation for fact-checking may not meet these standards. If you are unsure about which sources are appropriate, there is a list of sources that are considered generally reliable. Additionally, some WikiProjects have their own lists of sources that are considered reliable for that particular subtopic. If you are still unsure about a source's reliability, you can ask at the reliable sources noticeboard. Thank you. Graham87 (talk) 00:21, 27 January 2026 (UTC) For more information, see WP:DISCOGS; it's a user-generated source so shouldn't be used for citations here. Graham87 (talk) 00:21, 27 January 2026 (UTC) Also I notice that you marked your edit there among others as minor. A minor edit involves things like spelling/grammar/formatting changes, not addition of content. See Help:Minor edit. Graham87 (talk) 00:23, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

I'm recalling one edit today where I initially cited a source that was initially marked as questionable. I then changed the cited source to another. Could you double-check, please? I am not terribly experienced editing here, but (to me) simply adding one album is a minor edit. BlueIris2 (talk) 05:04, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
The unreliable source that Graham87 was referring to is discogs.com. Anybody can edit discogs.com, so Wikipedia considers it unreliable.
Weirdly enough, you can directly cite the CD or record insert itself using Template:Cite AV media notes, instead of its discogs page! For example, instead of:
"Britney Spears – ...Baby One More Time". discogs.com.
include:
Spears, Britney (1999). ...Baby One More Time (CD liner notes). Jive Records.
I hope that clears that up! Cronacrab (talk) 02:08, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Indeed; I just got this message. I've re-added it and added it to the artists' pages, with the main MJQ article citing Allmusic. Also, on the English Wikipedia, a minor edit has a specific definition; it means edits that make spelling/grammar fixes, not additions of text/data. Graham87 (talk) 02:57, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Yikes! To me, discogs is a fantastic source and I regard it as extremely reliable on music content. BlueIris2 (talk) 03:19, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
