Summarize Timeline Fact Check

Hello Calmly Trying! I noticed you had reverted two articles to a previous version (Special:Diff/1334286085 and Special:Diff/1334285922) and deleted sourced content in a table (Special:Diff/1334285199), without giving an edit summary or adding commentary on the talk page. One of these appears to be reverting to your own last contribution . For reverting such a large number of edits, a good reason should be given. I am not saying there isn't one, but for reverts in particular, rejecting another editor's work entirely without providing a justification or having an obvious reason is not good form (You can see WP:REVEXP for more about the thought process behind this). For the first two edits, a single user added information to both the articles without providing reliable citations. As for the third edit a simple Google search will show you that there was no 11th Sikh guru and that the holy book is the eternal Guru. Calmly Trying (talk) 07:35, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

Alright, that makes sense for the first two. If you want to redo your edits, I don't have an issue broadly but I do have two things that you should do:

• Write an edit summary explaining your reasoning, and since these edits are directly undoing another (involved) editor's work, leave a message on the talk page so they can respond there.
• Consider doing a partial revert, seeing if there are any pieces of the added content that can be left unchanged or edited instead of removed.

For the third one (Sikh gurus) I think you may want to open a discussion on the talk page and/or consider editing it in a different way. From what I can see, while that "11th guru" isn't considered the 11th today, the addition from the other user had some notes about it that made it seem like something that historically had meaning. Perhaps including it without giving it a number, or removing it from the table but adding a note about it in the text outside of the table would be a good idea. @Calmly Trying - Ample reliable sources are given regarding the guru-ship of the Khalsa in the article, a concept known as 'Guru Panth'. The article further goes into detail into why this form of guruship is not evoked in the present-era as much as the Guru Granth, although it is still legitimate. It is also referenced in the SGPC's Sikh Rehat Maryada. Quote: "The Guru Panth (Panth’s status of Guruhood) means the whole body of committed baptized Sikhs. This body was fostered by all the ten Gurus and the tenth Guru gave it its final shape and invested it with Guruhood"

I completely understand your point but as I said above there was no 11th Guru but an eternal one (the Panth and the Granth). I meant that putting numbers 11 and 12 would not be correct as it implies that one came before the other. Calmly Trying (talk) 19:32, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

@Calmly Trying - One did come before the other, though. The Khalsa Panth had been established in 1699, which had embodied the Guru Panth, whilst the Guru Granth Sahib was given the mantle of guruship in 1708. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 20:12, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
