Danmei
Hello? someone has added a statement in "Danmei" entry that Danmei is typically created by and for heterosexual women. However, there is a strong conservative force among many women in China that use "feminism" as a shield (they support the fixation and justification of betrothal gifts, which is in nature the commodification of women. Most of them even post hate speech against the LGBT community online). I worry if those person could take advantage of such a statement and further victimize the LGBT community. Would you please fix it if you think it's necessary? Yingqi365 (talk) 07:26, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi! This is an interesting situation, thanks for bringing it up. If the statement has a reliable source, we normally have to keep it, even though I definitely hear you about the possibility for it being twisted and used against the LGBT community. And it looks like that statement in Danmei about it being created by and for heterosexual women does cite a Master's thesis...but the thesis itself cites two sources that I don't think are reliable for the claim. One is a personal essay (published in an academic journal) that doesn't cite sources or offer original research to support the claim, and the other doesn't actually say that it's created by or for heterosexual women.
- I'll remove that statement and open a discussion about it on the article's talk page. But it may be added back if someone turns up a more reliable source for it. MidnightAlarm (talk) 17:02, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
