Tecumseh Day
As someone who writes on Shawnee-related topics, you might be interested in this. Thanks! Kevin1776 (talk) 18:36, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Kevin1776: Thanks, I'll take a look. I don't own a lot of good sources for Tecumseh, but I'd like to see what an A-Class and Featured article looks like. I've been struggling to improve some related articles. Canute (talk) 19:38, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- That would be great. Maybe you could think of some Shawnee-related article that you might want to submit as a Good Article nomination as we get closer to the October target date. Fresh Good Article nominations can appear in the "Did You Know?" section of the Main Page. I'd like to get a handful of those lined up for October. Kevin1776 (talk) 23:43, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Kevin1776: I've taken a backseat, but I put a lot of effort into articles related to the Northwest Indian War, which was a defining period for the Shawnee. I'm afraid I haven't made much progress with the evaluators, though. Canute (talk) 15:37, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Kevin1776: I did a quick read-through of Tecumseh and I don't see any major issues. Obviously there's always room for improvement, and I'll take a slower read to see if I find anything. I'm not a reliable rater, but you've done a good job with the article. If I had to nitpick something, it's that it relies heavily on Smudgen. I completely understand how difficult it can be to get reliable sources for these articles, but some reviewers may not appreciate that. Canute (talk) 18:15, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. Yeah, Sugden has written the only full-length academic biography of Tecumseh, so his work is necessarily the backbone of the article. Do you know of any Shawnee-related articles you might want to create or try to promote to GA status when we get closer to October? A short article on "The Glaize" might be in your wheelhouse, for example. You could create it in your sandbox and work on it until September, when you could move it the article namespace, when we could nominate it as a new article for the "Did You Know?" feature on October 5. - @Kevin1776: There was some discussion a couple years ago about creating an article on The Glaize. It piqued my interest but I couldn't find enough information to create an article, let alone reliable sources. I just found a 1978 article on JSTOR, but I don't want to pay $15 to read it and find out if it has good info. I'll take a look around; if we can find some sources maybe we could collaborate on an article.Canute (talk) 14:38, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- Have you tried signing up for a free JSTOR account? I did and get 100 free articles per month. Also I signed up for Wikipedia's free access to Project MUSE, which is amazing, giving access to loads of recent books and journal articles. And finally don't overlook https://www.hathitrust.org/ which has a ton of free, older sources. Kevin1776 (talk) 17:01, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Kevin1776:I have a free JSTOR account, but some premium articles still require either payment or a college login. I didn't know about the other two, I'll browse those and see what I find. Thanks! Canute (talk) 18:06, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- I can't believe that Glaize article is not available for free. What a disappointment. Here is another resource for some free materials. I've found some useful old stuff here: https://ohiomemory.org/digital/collection/p16007coll27/search Kevin1776 (talk) 20:43, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
