- Hi Dan,
- Im afraid I may have caused some confusion on my article for Alex McMurray. My submissions have been declined, apparently because I haven't established that McMurray is well known enough to merit an article. It's an interesting case , because although he's practically unknown outside of New Orleans , he's considered one of the most important singer/songwriters in that scene. There are articles on Wikipedia about very similar New Orleans artists (see Paul Sanchez, The Iguanas and Susan Cowsill, all of whom are linked in my article), so I'm convinced that he qualifies.
- Any suggestions you could offer would be appreciated.
- Thanks,
- Sean Sclinchy (talk) 23:48, 2 July 2025 (UTC)

- Is there any guidance you can offer me on this? My article contains numerous citations to other Wiki articles for artists that are very similar. I thought I had proven my case.
- Can you tell me where it falls short, and how I might proceed?
- Thanks for your time.
- Sean Sclinchy (talk) 22:55, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm simply not seeing that the person meets our criteria for inclusion. Have you read carefully WP:NMUSIC
- The current sources simply don't show notability.
- If these are the only sources you have, then this is the end of the road for this draft I'm afraid. qcne (talk) 23:05, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, I had not read the guidelines, my bad. I guess my problem is that I look at other comparable artists that have Wikipedia articles, and I don't see why they would qualify and McMurray would not. Paul Sanchez is another New Orleans singer/songwriter (and a buddy of McMurray's) who has an article that seems very similar to Alex's to me. Same for The Iguanas, another New Orleans based band that are much more well known in New Orleans than they are elsewhere.
- I'm not ready to give up yet!
- Thank you for your attention to this.

- @Sclinchy Each draft must stand on it's own merits, and we don't compare them to existing articles. Wikipedia has many millions of articles, tens of thousands of which are poor quality and should be improved or deleted. As we're a volunteer project no one has gotten around to doing that yet. If you have found articles that are of poor quality, please do feel free to improve them or nominate them for deletion. We don't want to add more poor quality articles to the project. Many older articles were also created before standards were as strict and may not meet modern notability requirements.
- I'd be happy to take another look at the draft if you find better sources. Remember: sources can be offline-only and don't have to be in English. qcne (talk) 16:24, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
- First of all, thanks for the time you've spent on this, it is much appreciated.
- This is helpful, I'll regroup and see what I can come up with, and give it one last shot. Sclinchy (talk) 13:51, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
