Hey, so I'm wondering if you'd know someone or a group of people who are willing to help refurbish some old tornado outbreak articles. Mainly Tornado outbreak sequence of June 3–11, 2008# and June 2010 Northern Plains tornado outbreak# where I've contributed a bit to some of the tornadoes.
It'd be nice to have someone or a group lend a hand into these. Thanks for reading.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:LinwoodKS 2019 Aerial.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:LinwoodKS 2019 Aerial.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. REAL 💬 ⬆ 00:27, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Good article nominations RfC

Hi Sharkeston,

There is an ongoing Request for Comment (RfC) at Wikipedia:Good article nominations/August 2026 RfC, which you may be interested in because in the past year, you have nominated or reviewed more than one good article nomination. This message has also been sent to all subscribers to the Good Article Gazette. The RfC contains many proposals (33 at the time of writing), which are split into the following categories: nominators, reviewers, reviews, volunteer roles, reviewing initiatives, and others. However, you are more than welcome to add any proposals of your own that you wish to put to the community.

By the end of September, all the proposals will have been closed by an uninvolved editor, either as a consensus for one of the options or with no consensus. At this point, editors will be invited again to develop these proposals into coherent policy and implement them.

Thank you for your contributions to the good articles project, and I look forward to your input! (in solidarity), JacobTheRox(talk|contributions) 16:03, 11 August 2026 (UTC)

Hi

Hi Sharkeston

I hope you are doing well.

I am working on my Wikipedia draft. It is about the Akçamezra tornado near the Syria–Turkey border. The Akçamezra tornado caused a lot of damage.İt completly debarked mature pistachio trees, did ground scouring, and destroyed masonry buildings.İt is currently rated IF3+ on ESWD

Since İt is my first time making a Wikipedia article from scratch I am having a hard time to expand this article and to make sure everything is right.

I know you are good at making tornado articles. So I was wondering if you could look at my draft. I would really like to hear what you think and get your help.

Here is the link, to the draft:Draft:2026 Akçamezra Tornado

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Also @EF5 suggested you. ⚡ StormL00ver ⚡ 15:29, 17 August 2026 (UTC)

Hi,
Yes, I was notified earlier that I was one of a few key persons mentioned.
I see that your draft looks really well put together for the 2026 Akçamezra tornado. However, I am not that great with tornadoes that occurred outside of the United States, despite me not being American in the first place. For some universal things, I would add things like timestamps (if possible), and distances to nearby significant places (like tornado touched down 5 km southwest of [place]).
You can use my existing articles as inspiration, which I definitely would recommend. Best ones would be the 2019 Linwood, Kansas EF4 and 2012 West Liberty, Kentucky EF3 tornado articles. Sharkeston (talk) 15:45, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
Also remember that for these articles, I took multiple days to polish. Rome was not built in one day. Sharkeston (talk) 15:48, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
Thanks.Also is there any other thing I should improve? ⚡ StormL00ver ⚡ 16:00, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
You could lengthen the lead text (Top) section) and add a recovery process topic if notable coverage is strong in general, and long lasting. Other than that, I would say just add more citations. Sharkeston (talk) 16:04, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
İs this curently good enough?Don't worry I will expend it more. ⚡ StormL00ver ⚡ 16:28, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
Yes. Just focus on gathering more sources for citations. Sharkeston (talk) 16:31, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
Okay Thanks ⚡ StormL00ver ⚡ 16:34, 17 August 2026 (UTC)

Actually I do not know if these would work. I am very much used to American tornadoes anyways. Sharkeston (talk) 16:02, 18 August 2026 (UTC)
Nope it doesnt work.İt needs to be turkish and currently there is no subject as weather events or tornadoes in TR wiki so the infoboxes became useless ⚡ StormL00ver ⚡ 16:03, 18 August 2026 (UTC)

Tropical cyclone Merge-a-thon

Longtime editors and lurkers might have noticed an uptick in the number of article mergers this year. A discussion in December 2025 talked about articles for fish storms or were otherwise had minor impacts. As Hurricane Noah summarized, "if a storm isn't being discussed after the fact for meteorological notability and impacts were minor or nil, there shouldn't be an article. Since then, 8 featured articles and 76 good articles have been merged. In a recent AFD, Quxyz mentioned their own minimum threshold for a tropical cyclone article (1,000 words and 20,000 bytes).

Help requested for specific topics

There are a few ongoing projects that are needed in Wiki-Project weather, separate from any requested articles.

  • After years of discussion on standardizing the colors for tropical cyclone tracks, there is an ongoing project to replace the roughly 2,200 track maps across the hundreds of storm/season articles. One of the members helping with the track maps, 2003 LN6 (talk · contribs), estimated that "about 15–20% of the historic track maps are recolored properly, but progress is being made. I have personally been working on the North Atlantic tracks, but I have observed the work of many others as well."
Another member working on older Atlantic and season track maps, JasonHo1222 (talk · contribs), asked, "can I be quoted in the newsletter too?" Thanks to 2003 LN6, JasonHo1222, and all of the other users helping with this task.
  • The tropical cyclone season button bars have outdated coding that should ideally be replaced. The talk page goes into detail, but basically swapping out two parts of the template ("List of storms" and "Statistics" sub-articles, which we don't have anymore) in favor of the yearly "Weather of YYYY" and "Tropical cyclones in YYYY" articles.
  • List of tropical cyclones producing snow - inspired by the recent Hurricane Lala that produced snowfall in Hawaii, there is a consensus that such an article could be useful.

Comments or suggestions? This is the first of what will hopefully be a long-running newsletter. If you have any suggestions or complaints (such as them being in a different order in the section header), click on the previous links or try the newsletter talk page.
