Reliable sources

Hi Ukiws, it's obvious you know a great deal about Hampshire and Bentworth in particular, but it would help enormously if you added supporting references. We can't use other Wikipedia articles as references (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources) but if you can find something to support what you know (as I know myself from my own area of expertise in geology this can be difficult) it reduces the likelihood of reversions and excessive discussions. Alan Brooke

Your most recent addition (of the many times you've added it) to the Churchill article of the material Brooke material has been reverted, citing a lack of sourcing . But there's a more fundamental reason than that, which is that the Churchill article is absolutely bursting at the seams as it is, and can only describe the major events in the arc of his life and career. Churchill no doubt appointed many thousands of people to important posts, and some proportion of those appointments may appear, in retrospect, to have been especially fortunate or unfortunate, but the article doesn't include such details about anyone else he appointed, and isn't going to do so for Brooke as some special exception.

Something about Brooke might belong in the article Winston Churchill in the Second World War, but even there I'm skeptical, as that article as well is already quite long without even attempting to discuss key appointments, and here again I fail to see why Brooke in particular merits special treatment. I fear that Alan Brooke's important and admirable contributions to victory will need to be confined to the Alan Brooke article.

If you disagree, open a discussion on the talk page (of the Churchill WW2 article -- the main article on Churchill is a nonstarter). But you absolutely must stop adding it to the Churchill article without consensus. EEng 23:36, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

I came here to offer some advice about your referencing in this edit about Brooke. However, I saw this post by EEng#s and I completely agree that we cannot give precedence to any of Churchill's appointees. I would also advise you to open a discussion at the WWII article. Incidentally, Brooke's appointment is covered sufficiently in Churchill war ministry#1 May 1941 to 30 April 1942.
As for your reference, we do not use Wikipedia itself as a source, per WP:WPNOTRS. Also, you need to use inline citations correctly by providing page number(s), year of publication, publisher, and oclc/isbn. I've corrected that reference except for the page number, which you need to confirm.
Please ask if you need help or have any questions. Jack (talk) 11:01, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for your advice, I did not realise there was so much criticism of me about my web edits. As I have said elsewhere, must do better in future.
Currently I am banned from web editing but I have a new picture to add to the Bentworth village web site.
Please advise me how I can do this,
Cheers and kind regards,

It looks like you're currently blocked from editing articles directly, but you're more than welcome to submit edit requests to ask another editor to do this for you - that way, someone more experienced can check through your request and make sure it's added properly.
In this case, you can upload the photo to Wikimedia Commons (if it's not there already) then make an edit request on the article Talk page for someone experienced to take a look. They'll then make the edit for you, if they agree that it'll improve the article.
The easiest way is to use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard, which does most of it automatically for you.
If you make a lot of accepted edit requests, that'll give admins confidence that it's a good idea to remove the block on editing articles directly; that's up to you if you'd like to do that in the future.
For now, edit requests seem to be a good compromise - you make the suggestion and someone who is more familiar with the technical side will make sure it's all ok and actually make the edit for you.
You can ask for advice at the Teahouse 24 hours a day, if you ever need help with making edit requests (or anything else on Wikipedia).
Hope this helps! Blue Sonnet (talk) 17:39, 7 March 2026 (UTC)

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing certain namespaces ((Article)) for continued disruptive editing and addition of content that is unsourced/inappropriately sourced despite multiple concerns being raised. Please come to join the discussion about your conduct at ANI.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  The Bushranger One ping only 00:15, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

Do not register new accounts

Ukiws, you have been partly blocked. If you register new user account(s), like you did Strachian, that is block evasion, which only makes matters worse. I have blocked the Strachian account. Please do not register any more.

You are only blocked from editing in the article space, you're free to edit talk pages, project pages, and create new drafts, etc. If you wish to challenge your block, the instructions for doing so are provided in the block notice above, and you can find further advice in WP:GAB. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:32, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Request reason:

I have received advice from several people on where I went wrong and have taken this on board. I have an update for the wiki on my ex-village of Bentworth (we lived there for some 40 years) and would like to add it. Please unblock me and I will change the way I deal with things, for which I apologise ! Cheers to all Wiki enthusiasts ! Ian Strachan MBE

Notes:

  • In some cases, you may not in fact be blocked, or your block has already expired. Please check the list of active blocks. If no block is listed, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
  • Please read our guide to appealing blocks to make sure that your unblock request will help your case. You may change your request at any time.
Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, replace this template with the following, replacing "blocking administrator" with the name of the blocking admin:

{{Unblock on hold |1=blocking administrator |2=''I have received advice from several people on where I went wrong and have taken this on board. I have an update for the wiki on my ex-village of Bentworth (we lived there for some 40 years) and would like to add it. Please unblock me and I will change the way I deal with things, for which I apologise ! Cheers to all Wiki enthusiasts ! Ian Strachan MBE'' |3 = ~~~~}}

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following code, substituting {{subst:Decline reason here}} with a specific rationale. Leaving the decline reason unchanged will result in display of a default reason, explaining why the request was declined.

{{unblock reviewed |1=''I have received advice from several people on where I went wrong and have taken this on board. I have an update for the wiki on my ex-village of Bentworth (we lived there for some 40 years) and would like to add it. Please unblock me and I will change the way I deal with things, for which I apologise ! Cheers to all Wiki enthusiasts ! Ian Strachan MBE'' |decline = {{subst:Decline reason here}} ~~~~}}

If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following, substituting Accept reason here with your rationale:

{{unblock reviewed |1=''I have received advice from several people on where I went wrong and have taken this on board. I have an update for the wiki on my ex-village of Bentworth (we lived there for some 40 years) and would like to add it. • Could you provide more detail about the edit you want to make. The WP:ANI thread mentioned sourcing problems, so I am interested in whether you have taken that onboard. PhilKnight (talk) 15:31, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
