I assume from your name that you're a Tech student and/or graduate? (My wife went to the vet school in the late 1980s.) What's the story with a medical school starting there - do you know? If so, could you add anything to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University about it? - DavidWBrooks 18:56, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Whoa - that was quick! Sounds like kind a weird setup, but who knows? -DavidWBrooks 19:45, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)
If you look into the structure of governance, VCOM's Chairman of the Board is John Rocovich, who is a member of VT's Board of Visitors and an old Hokie; VCOM's namesake Edward Via is the son of Charles Via, for whom VT's Department of Civil Engineering is named, and foundations left by the Marion Via estate provided the funds to start VCOM. In the Virginia budget environment of 2001-2004, it would have been politically impossible for VT to get approval to build a costly new medical school, but starting the school privately got around that; I think what they're trying to do (if you'll allow the use of a fuzzy they) is present the VA General Assembly with a fait accompli when VCOM gets accreditation and/or the political time is right. --VT hawkeye 20:02, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Well, I live about a mile from SL, but I'm not a native -- grew up near Richmond. Reston's a cool place, though, I gotta say. VT hawkeyetalk to me 00:22, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

I didn't mean my work to be egotistical. I just put it up so the users could look at my work in articles. I figured it'd just be profiled away so users of the game could look at it when they like. I've deleted the article so lets leave it... There was no need to be rude about it hawkeye.. You could've just said delete it.

Actually, I did. More precisely, the entire content of my change was "Delete per nom" and a signature. And to cap off, I don't think the original nominator, User:ReyBrujo, whose text you're probably getting upset about, was being rude either. See your talk page. Retired numbers

This is the second time this has had to have been reverted, and I'm afraid that whether the Hartford Wolfpack has "retired" those numbers or not -- which they haven't, seeing as Purinton and Giroux still wear #5 and #10 -- there is no more "Hartford Whalers" team eligible to retire anything. RGTraynor 19:23, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Considering that the numbers will hang on the same rack as 2/9/19, eradicating the information entirely is extremely pedantic. A distinction should be drawn in the Hartford Whalers article, perhaps (which I put in), but some notice needs to be taken that there are a few more Whaler numbers hanging at the Mall now. VT hawkeyetalk to me 19:59, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
If you think it's listable under the Hartford Civic Center page, feel free, but I suppose it's about as significant as if they still have the 1986 All-Star Game banner hanging from the rafters. Beyond that, no, no notice really needs to be taken, because the "Hartford Whalers" have in fact retired nothing new. RGTraynor 20:32, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Franklin Parks

Yes, it turns out he has no notability, but the A7 criterion can only be applied when there is no claim of notability whatsoever; consensus has indicated that being a sports figure is a claim of notability. Furthermore, it should be fairly obvious when to apply the speedy deletion criteria; you had to do research in order to figure out that he's just one player who hasn't done much, which is usually what happens during an AfD discussion (i.e., the system works). I for one tend to apply the CSD rather strictly because deletions are supposed to be serious affairs. Seeing as how you're fairly new to AfD, you probably don't recognize a lot of people yet. I can tell you that Jaranda is someone who knows when articles can be speedily deleted and would have tagged it as such had it qualified. Not that his (or mine or Mgm's) judgement is infallible or anything, of course. Regards, howcheng {chat} 00:28, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Most?!

i searched through the history and the question at Talk:Telephone_numbering_plan#Most.3F.21 relates to infomation you added. could you possiblly answer it? Plugwash 03:07, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Question answered. You may want to avoid the incredulity ("?!") when you're asking questions about something you don't know much about; it tends to put people on the defensive before they even read your comment. VT hawkeyetalk to me 04:19, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Walker vs J. Marshall/AAA schools in Richmond

I just saw your message in my page. The school enrollment data that the VHSL uses for its official classification figures is from the Virginia Department of Education. There is a link that gives detailed data on fall enrollment. I don't use the VHSL directory to show enrollment figures because they are grossly inaccurate for some schools, such as Alleghany which is a legit AA school, but the directory states it has 658, which is probably the 9-11 enrollment, which is how A/AA/AAA classes were determined until 2003 when they now looked at the entire school. If Alleghany had 658 in 9th through 12th grade, they'd definitely be a Group A school.

Based on the DoE's info, in 2005-2006, John Marshall had 978 students, and Walker is at 640'ish (but that's not in the DoE's data for some reason). That's why I say that Walker is the smallest AAA school. There's also some Appomattox Governor's school in Petersburg or something like that which is A in athletics and AAA in academics. . .

Yes, you are right about Richmond schools all playing in AAA just for the status. That's in the AAA Central Region's page. As with Northern Virginia being stricter about AA/AAA cutoffs, they are to a good degree, but South Lakes, George Marshall, Stuart, Falls Church, and Potomac all are AA size and are AAA anyway. It's also probably because they've been AAA so long and that they'd feel embarrassed to play in AA, like the Richmond schools.

The only place where the cutoffs will be strict are with the Loudoun schools, because they want their schools to be AA and only AA. Loudoun Valley and Stone Bridge are AAA right now, but Heritage looks like the next one that should bump up a class. Funny thing is when the next playing cycle happens, Heritage will be bigger than Stone Bridge, but they will be in AA, and Stone Bridge will be in AAA.

If you edited the Walker page, that's fine. I saw it and I don't think it changed much really, not to mention that I'm not from Richmond, though I know a lot of folks that do. Thanks.

Carolina Hurricanes

Then Oleg Tverdovsky's nationality flag on his article needs to be changed to russian, not just in the Caroline Hurricanes article. Since the nationality stated "Ukrainian" I had thought he is. Xioyux 14:13, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Alright, thanks for clearing that up. Xioyux 15:24, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

HELP

I have added a picture that my father is in to the Charles Schultz page and I don't know how to say the right words to get past the copy Right stuff. My dad was given the photo as part of the first over 75 team. Sparky started it it as an over 50 league --- until he turned 55 --- then it became over 55 and so on and so on ...

My dad was within a few months of Sparky's age and just went along for the ride. Sparky did not like to fly and my father would often fill in for him (on the ice) at tournments in British Coulumbia.

I digress --- How do I say the right words to keep this great photo here, where I beleive it belongs.

This Wiki stuff is much to confusing (and IMHO User Hostile). Snoopy_J@hotmail.com

PS My dad is 2nd row 7th from left (gray sweater) PPS I also have personal autographed photo of a Jerry Heffernan who played for the Montreal Canadians, and won the Stanley Cup in 1944. I think that he is in this photo also. <babble off>

You have worked on Naming the American Civil War within the last few months. I am stepping back from the article for a day or so to avoid an edit war. My request is that you consider stepping in to apply some peer pressure in the interest of civility, NPOV, assuming good faith, etc. It's up to you. -- Alarob 00:15, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm probably being 'super' picky about this, however your 'pro styling' of the Honored Members content, should be 'Hall of Famers' then 'Retired Numbers'. GoodDay 20:32, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Fair use of logos

I don't know about this claim about other Wikipedias not permitting "fair use"; my guess is that under other legal systems there is some rule about how to use the logos of sports teams -- it's just not called fair use. (Otherwise, why would the Germna article on Arsenal FC show its logo?) As for this war on logos, I'm amused that some of the folks who rail about too many bureaucratic rules or wikilawyering are now indulging in that very same wikilawyering to defend their position. I'm also amused that these folks decided to allow Betacommand -- who is currently out of favor for his mechanistic approach to solving problems about inproper names & external links -- to be the point guy on this. (I can think of a few people with enough Wikipedia-wide respect who probably could get away with it.) Undoubtedly their belief comes from Jimbo's diktat against fair use in Wikipedia -- but (1) even he has admitted that fair use sometimes has its place; & (2) Jimbo has been wrong at times -- even he has admitted to his failings. Maybe we ought to ask his opinion on this, since I can't believe he wouldn't agree that the "no free use" advocates are in the wrong on this topic. -- llywrch 18:48, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

ACC Sunday Night Hoops

I agree with the prod. I would have done the same myself but, not being aware of the significance of the telecast, I decided to look for some direction. I certainly know that the teams involved are notable. I'll watch it until it goes red on the unlikely chance that it is disputed. Cheers! --Stormbay 23:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Fukuyama Masaharu All Night Nippon Saturday Special Tamashii no Radio (Sat. from 23:30 until 25:00) It means the program starts 23:30 on Sat. night and ends 01:00(precisely it should be 00:59, I guess.)on Sun. morning. Does it help? --Oda Mari 18:17, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank You

I thank u for putting in the CFL cities on the big four thread, but I still believe that the CFL is better (and you seem to agree) than the NFLE, and I was replying about a pair in a sentence about that, which I tock out because it was just silly and unture. Sry for any inconvenience and thanks again, being a Blue Bomber fan, it means alot. User:Kanga-Kucha 20:19 PM, June 09, 2007

PS, I used RW as an example because most american GI football fans would reconise him, though he is washed up due to his habit, which has lowered his performance. IMO, it should be more known that many NFL players come to play in the CFL and don't make it, or aren't as good in the CFL as they are in the NFL. There are however many examples of CFL players making it to the NFL and doing well, such as Paul Garcia and Kenton Keith.

I may also meation the Arena League, but not put down the city of the current teams, such they change like every year. User:Kanga-Kucha 20:19 PM, June 09, 2007
