香港大学

香港大学（ホンコンだいがく、広: 香港大學、英: University of Hong Kong）は、香港・薄扶林に本部を置く香港の公立大学。1887年創立、1911年大学設置。大学の略称は港大、HKU。

概要

香港最古の大学であり、香港島西部にメインキャンパスを有し、新界にも研究所がある。2018年度^{[要検証 – ノート]}の在校生は1万7000人、研究生を入れると2万9000人、教職員数5249人であった。2012年現在の学長は張翔（en:Xiang Zhang）教授。名誉総長は行政長官が務め、行政長官が欠けたときは行政長官代行が名誉総長代行を兼ねる。

世界的な大学ランキングでも上位20-40校以内に位置するなど、東アジアの名門校として教育・研究水準ともに高く評価される（後述）。

著名な卒業生に孫文などがいる。

沿革

1887年に創立された香港医科大学（香港西医書院）を前身とし、1910年当時の香港総督であるフレデリック・ルガードによって総合大学として再編された。3月16日を創立記念日とする。1911年大学として認可され、1912年に最初の入学式を行った。当時は医学部、工学部、文学部の3学部のみであった。第二次世界大戦中、日本軍の占領下では閉鎖されていた。現在^[いつ?]は教育、法律、経営管理・経済、理学系、社会科学系など10の学問分野のファカルティ（学部）を持つ大学に発展している。

中国本土からの留学生

香港は中国返還以来大陸との交流が盛んである。2006年に香港大学を卒業した大陸からの留学生の40％が香港で就職している^[1]。
