Wahlkreis North East Hertfordshire

North East Hertfordshire ist ein Wahlkreis (englisch constituency) in der Grafschaft Hertfordshire im Osten Englands, der einen Abgeordneten ins britische Unterhaus (House of Commons) entsendet. Er besteht seit 1997 und liegt in den Bezirken East Hertfordshire und North Hertfordshire. Bedeutende Orte im Wahlkreis sind Baldock, Buntingford, Letchworth, Puckeridge und Royston.

Geschichte
Die Boundary Commission for England schuf den Wahlkreis im Hinblick auf die Unterhauswahl 1997. Er entstand aus Teilen des aufgelösten Wahlkreises North Hertfordshire sowie der weiterhin bestehenden Wahlkreise Hertford and Stortford und Stevenage. 2010 und 2024 nahm die Boundary Commission im Rahmen periodischer Überprüfungen verschiedene Änderungen des Grenzverlaufs vor.
Der Wahlkreis umfasst(e) folgende Gebiete:
- 1997–2010: im East Hertfordshire District die Wards Braughing, Buntingford, Cottered, Little Hadham, Munden, Standon St Mary, Stapleford, Tewin, Thundridge und Watton-at-Stone sowie im North Hertfordshire District die Wards Arbury, Baldock, Grange, Letchworth East, Letchworth South East, Letchworth South West, Newsells, Royston East, Royston West, Sandon, Weston und Wilbury[2]
- 2010–2024: im East Hertfordshire District die Wards Braughing, Buntingford, Hertford Rural North, Hertford Rural South, Little Hadham, Mundens & Cottered, Puckeridge, Thundridge & Standon, Walkern und Watton-at-Stone sowie im North Hertfordshire District die Wards Arbury, Baldock East, Baldock Town, Ermine, Letchworth East, Letchworth Grange, Letchworth South East, Letchworth South West, Letchworth Wilbury, Royston Heath, Royston Meridian, Royston Palace und Weston & Sandon[3]
- seit 2024: im East Hertfordshire District die Wards Aston, Datchworth & Walkern (teilweise), Braughing & Standon, Buntingford, Hertford Rural, Little Hadham & The Pelhams, The Mundens, Ware Rural (teilweise) und Watton-at-Stone sowie im North Hertfordshire District die Wards Arbury, Baldock East, Baldock West, Ermine, Letchworth Grange, Letchworth Norton, Letchworth South East, Letchworth South West, Letchworth Wilbury, Royston Heath, Royston Meridian, Royston Palace und Weston & Sandon[4]
Erster Abgeordneter war Oliver Heald von der Conservative Party, der zuvor den Vorgängerwahlkreis North Hertfordshire vertreten hatte. Lange Zeit galt North East Hertfordshire als sicherer Wahlkreis und Heald erhielt knapp 60 Prozent der Stimmen. Dies änderte sich bei der Unterhauswahl 2024, als seine designierte Nachfolgerin fast die Hälfte der bisherigen Wählerschaft verlor; dadurch gelang es Chris Hinchliff, den Sitz erstmals für die Labour Party zu gewinnen.
