1919

Calendar year From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

1919 (MCMXIX) was a common year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar and a common year starting on Tuesday of the Julian calendar, the 1919th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 919th year of the 2nd millennium, the 19th year of the 20th century, and the 10th and last year of the 1910s decade. As of the start of 1919, the Gregorian calendar was 13 days ahead of the Julian calendar, which remained in localized use until 1923.

From top to bottom, left to right: The Treaty of Versailles ends World War I between Germany and Allied Powers, imposing reparations and redrawing borders; the Greco-Turkish War begins as Greece invades Anatolia, sparking the Turkish War of Independence; the Polish–Soviet War erupts over borderlands between Poland and Soviet Russia; the Irish War of Independence starts as the Irish Republican Army fights British rule; the May Fourth Movement rises in China against imperialism and Japanese encroachment; and the Hungarian Soviet Republic briefly becomes Europe’s first communist state before falling in the Hungarian–Romanian War.
