The White Sox achieved multiple successes in 2026. They ended their streak of three consecutive 100+ loss seasons. They also ended their 3-losing season streak, winning their 81st game, a narrow 14–11 win over the Kansas City Royals. Two days later, they secured a 9–1 victory over the same Royals, becoming the first team in MLB history to clinch the MLB playoffs after three straight seasons with 100+ loss seasons.[2]

Despite these improvements, they lost their American League Central division lead they held for much of the season in late September to the Guardians, which also prevented them from having a first-round bye. This forced them to settle for the final spot in the American League Wild Card Series, where they played the Houston Astros in their first playoff series since 2021. They then swept Houston in two games, never trailing in either one, for their first postseason series win since the 2005 World Series, coincidentally also against Houston (who at the time were in the National League). They are currently set to face the division rival Guardians in their first American League Division Series since 2021.
