Chittagong-5 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh. Since 6 August 2024, the constituency remains vacant.
The constituency encompasses the entirety of Hathazari Upazila, the Chittagong Cantonment, and parts of the Chattogram City Corporation, specifically No. 1 South Pahartali Ward and No. 2 Jalalabad Ward, integrating these areas under a single administrative and electoral boundary.[1][2]
History
The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973.
Ahead of the 2014 general election, the Election Commission shifted the boundaries of the constituency. Previously it had encompassed Raozan Upazila and only one union parishad of Hathazari Upazila: Garduara.[1][3]
