Horrible name
This word means "bad breeding" and was invented in 1864 as a political move by those who wanted to continue slavery. We should choose a less objectionable title. The term itself reeks of and exudes racism.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:03, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Anti-miscegenation laws in the United States → Laws banning interracial marriage and sexual relations in the United States – The current title is 1.) Racist. The term "miscegenation" originated in 1864 and was created in opposition to the abolition of slavery (https://daily.jstor.org/the-miscegenation-troll/), and does not have a legitimate reason for being the title (such as being the common name).
2.) Is not commonly searched for (See the Google Trend for Interracial marriage in the United States vs. for Anti-miscegenation laws in the United States. Delcoan (talk) 21:45, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
Nomination withdrawn; will resubmit new nom with other articles included and with different title wording. Delcoan (talk) 15:31, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:CRITERIA for conciseness and consistency. The new title is unwieldy and would be inconsistent with our articles Anti-miscegenation laws and Anti-miscegenation cases in the American West. My main issue with it is the consistency part. I don't believe this is an entirely hopeless quest on your part though. If there was a more concise way to put it and, most importantly, if you did a requested move to move all the articles using this terminology in their titles then this change could work out. ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 04:07, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Maltazarian: Can I withdraw and make a new nomination? Delcoan (talk) 14:55, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah I'd say that's perfectly acceptable in this situation ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 15:17, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose It is the common name. Certainly for this class of laws. Walrasiad (talk) 08:07, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: If we compare the Google Trends we see that neither is a popular search term and anti-miscegenation laws in the United States had a blip in popularity in 2006. The Ngram surprised me, with miscegenation becoming more common throughout the 1990's and 21st century. My sense is that more modern, and more global, terminology would be an improvement but the limited data so far doesn't clearly support that. —Myceteae🍄🟫 (talk) 20:46, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose This is a legal term of art and appears to be the common name in the literature per a Google scholar search. voorts (talk/contributions) 21:01, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose while I do not really like the implications of "miscegenation", that is the term used by most people in regards to the laws.
